Principal Report
It feels like such a long time since I put together a principal report in the newsletter, it is great to be back!
It has been a huge second half of the year, with the conclusion of term not too far away.
Transitioning to 2026
2026 is starting to take centre stage, with considerations for classes and work around transitions happening across the school. Transitioning from one year to the next, near or far, can be a period filled with mixed feelings for students (and even staff). It is important to acknowledge all that comes with any transition and also reach out with concerns or for support. Our team are already working with a number of families to set up additional transition supports to navigate what can be a complex time.
For the whole school, we have our upcoming step up day in a couple of weeks. On this day students will get to meet their teacher for 2026 and also begin to get to know the peers that will be joining them in their class next year. We will share some more information around this in the coming week or so through Compass.
Attendance
It has been great to see so many of our families working hard to ensure everyone arrives to school on time to start learning. We are also very happy to be able to support some students and their families in improving their attendance and arrival at school. Make sure you reach out to our team if getting to school on time is regularly a challenge and we can look at how to work together at improving this to ensure your child has a positive start to their day.
Headwear
I have two reminders when it comes to headwear in this newsletter.
The first is in relation to the announcement I made at assembly last week, where I put a call out to families to donate unused helmets that were still in good condition. We were very happy to receive a couple of helmets that we will look to give away soon. For all of the families who ride or scoot to school, it is important that everyone is safe by wearing a helmet. The second headwear announcement is about hats. In our school across Term 4 and 1, SunSmart hats are an expectation - even if the day is cold, grey and cloudy. With our guidelines actually indicating that Sun and UV protection is required for any day with a UV Index rating over 3. So put in general terms, as I am writing this message on Wednesday the 19th, it is 20 degrees outside and the UV Index is currently 7 - it was already over 3 at 9am this morning. Unfortunately, if your child does not have a SunSmart hat they may miss out on a range of school activities such as playtime, PE and even excursions. If you require support in getting a SunSmart hat please touch base with me or our office.
