Swimming Starts this week - sport is back on Wednesdays!

Tomorrow we will head to Werris Creek Pool for our first of four swimming session. For four weeks students will leave school at 11:30am and return by 1:20pm in time for lunch.

These sessions will provide students with opportunities to perform a range of water safety and survival skills, e.g. treading water, blowing bubbles, floating on back and  entering and exiting the water safely. They will have the opportunity to learn how to propel through the water in a streamlined position, using arm action and continuous kicking and may learn a variety of stroke skills such as freestyle, backstroke, breastroke and side stroke.

For our first swimming session, students will complete a swimming skills checklist. This well assist in grouping students, according to water confidence and ability, for the remainder of our swimming sessions.

What to pack:

Each week it is important students pack the following in their swimming bags:

  • Swimmers and rash shirt (sun protective swim shirt - no student will swim without one).
  • Thongs, slides or crocs to wear to the pool (much easier to pop on when wet).
  • Towel
  • Goggles - particularly important if students do not like putting their head under water.
  • Sunscreen - only if a special brand is required. The school has sunscreen readily available to students.
