Ascot Hills

Our VCE Agriculture and Horticulture students have been busy with practical learning this term.

Unit 4 students visited Ascot Hills, a farm at Cosgrove, to prepare for their SACs. Farmer Monica Sutherland explained how she is restoring the land by using cover crops, fencing, and swales to improve soil and water health. Students collected soil and water samples for testing back at school and observed clear differences between healthy and degraded soil.

Unit 2 students are learning about animal production and are currently caring for newly hatched chicks. Later in the term, they’ll move on to calf care. They’re also looking after vegetables they planted in the rooftop garden.

These hands-on experiences are helping students apply what they learn in class to real-life farming.
