MOUNT ERIN BOARDING SCHOOL (MEBS)

Who knew that Mary Gilmore wrote a poem about Mount Erin? Mary of course adorns our $10 notes. Mary Gilmore was born in rural New South Wales, and spent her childhood in and around the Riverina, living both in small bush settlements and in larger country towns like Wagga Wagga.

Born 16th August 1865 –  died 3rd December 1962, Mary was an Australian writer and journalist known for her prolific contributions to Australian literature and the broader national discourse. She wrote both prose and poetry. Mary Gilmore wrote this poem on 8th November 1947.
