From the Houses

Nagle and Rice House welcomed its newest boarders Matilda, Scarlett, Hannah, Maya, Laura, Carter, Jett, and Alex at the start of 2025. They have already made an impact on our community. It has been great getting to know them, and being part of their story as they continue their education at MDCC and KCC.
The first day back is always exciting as friends see each other after being apart through the summer break, and we get to catch up with parents as they return their children. There are stories to share and all of the staff here at MEBS are amazed at how much they have all grown and changed in such a short time.
During the last two weeks, we have had the pleasure of attending both KCC and MDCC open nights and witnessing our boarders working hard in their school communities promoting their respective schools and showcasing boarding, making everyone feel welcome and sharing first-hand what it is like to board at MEBS. Several families came through for boarding house tours and we were very proud of how neat the boarding houses looked.
The Boarding students have settled into routine, including Study. All our Boarders have engaged with the online A-Team Tutoring programme , logging in each night and engaging as required.
This term we are looking forward to our Co-Ed Netball Tournament , St. Patrick's Day dinner, Boarders Mass, our first formal dinner, and celebrating end-of-term and Easter together. The recent warm to hot weather has allowed us to spend time in the pool and enjoying the outside in the courtyards together. It is always fabulous to listen to the boarders interact with each other and we hope they are making good memories of their time here that will last a lifetime.

NAGLE HOUSE
We welcomed five new girls to Nagle Dorm in 2025: Maya, Laura, Scarlett, Tilly and Hannah. It has been a big change for the girls but they have all settled well in their "home away from home" here at MEBS and at their new schools. We look forward to seeing their continued growth and achievements.
It has been a busy start to Term One with a number of the girls getting involved in off-site activities such as soccer, swimming at the Oasis, art lessons, leadership programs, netball, gym, dance, and musical rehearsals. In week four Kildare had their twilight swimming carnival. For the MDCC boarders, they enjoyed a walk to Maccas and a special breakfast of pancakes and waffles the next morning. Kildare enjoyed the same when it was Mater Dei's twilight swimming carnival in week 5.
Also in week 5 we had our first Nagle community meeting. For this one of our student leaders organised and ran a Kahoot to test the girls knowledge on MEBS and boarding - Maya G and Gabbie won with the highest score. There was a supper of chocolate and mint fudge and toasted sandwiches to follow, which was enjoyed by all.
Our Year 12 students have been busy studying in preparation for the year ahead. In saying this, they still take the time out to hang out with their peers - like watching some TV with a few of the Yr 7, 8, and 9 girls.

RICE HOUSE
At the Mater Dei Swimming carnival, junior boarder Nicholas Campbell managed to progress to BISSA for breaststroke, freestyle, and a relay which took place on the 6th of March. We wish him well.
Junior Boarder Lachlan Nagle and his Cricket team (The Tumbarumba Under 15s mixed) have progressed to the Grand Final, his team faced a close match but after some struggle, they managed to defeat the other team, with Lachie hitting the winning runs. This is his first cricket Grand Final and we wish him well.
Big Brekky:
MEBS Catering staff have been experimenting with extravagant and delicious breakfasts, the boys have certainly been getting their fill.
Senior Boys (Charlie Patey and Kieran Middleton) have been making good use of the pool table
Senior Boarders Archi, Albert, Issac, Dusty, and Mac represented KCC and MDCC in the Byrnes Shield Cricket Competition. KCC played four preliminary games, winning two and losing two. KCC played KHS in the playoff for 3rd spot, KCC made 230 with Isaac making 76 runs. Great effort Isaac.
Mac and MDCC didn’t make finals but had some close games, Mac enjoyed the games and played primarily as a bowler, picked up some wickets.
