Catholic Identity

Bishop of Sandhurst
As a Catholic community we congratulate Bishop Shane MacKinlay on his appointment as Archbishop of Brisbane.
For the last six years, Bishop Shane has led the Sandhurst Diocese and is much loved for his relational and personable manner. Bishop Shane always appeared to make conversation look effortless no matter the age of those whose company he was in.
We were blessed to welcome Bishop Shane more recently at the 150th birthday celebrations of St Mary's Parish.
He will be greatly missed.
As 'Pilgrims of Hope', we pray for the process regarding the installation of a new Bishop for our Diocese. We pray while waiting in trust and hope.
We pray equally for Bishop Shane as he transitions into a new role. May the Holy Spirit guide him.
Bishop Shane will be installed as the Archbishop of Brisbane on Thursday 11th September.
Together we pray:
Lord, help us to be honest about who we are, hopeful for who we may become and clear about the person being called to be the next Bishop of Sandhurst.
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Amen.
Winter Appeal
‘Vinnies Winter Appeal’ is our fundraising focus for the remainder of this term and it is wonderful to see donations of blankets & rugs, jumpers and jackets appearing in the donation box in the front Office. These will be donated to our local St Vincent de Paul Centre at the end of this term.
Thank you for you continued generosity and outreach to those who are most vulnerable and cold in our community.
F.I.R.E. Carrier Project
The aim of the F.I.R.E. (Friends Igniting Reconciliation through Education) Carrier Project is to promote respect, fairness and inclusion for Aboriginal people.
To be a F.I.R.E. Carrier is to exercise an important leadership role in the school community. At St Mary’s, F.I.R.E. carriers are staff and Grades 5 & 6 learners who share a passion for learning about Aboriginal culture and history and are committed to sharing this knowledge and promoting reconciliation within and beyond the school community.
Our current F.I.R.E. carriers will be recommissioned prior to NAIDOC week (July 6th – 13th), reigniting their passion and important role within our community.
