Restorative Practices

This week, our staff engaged in professional learning around Classroom Mastery and a behaviour curriculum, which aligns strongly with our ongoing commitment to Restorative Practices in our school. These practices build on how we support students to understand their behaviour, develop and repair relationships, and build a stronger sense of community.

Starting in Term 3, we will strengthen our already solid approach to behaviour by introducing a consistent whole-school approach to three key areas:

• a structured entry routine to start the day well, as well as after each break

• a consistent cue to attention that sets the tone for learning

• a clear and calm exit routine that ends the day and each session positively

While the full approach begins in Term 3, staff are already embedding elements of this in classrooms. This continuity ensures learners are supported by consistent, predictable structures across all year levels and in all settings.

Importantly, this is not a shift away from what makes St Mary’s special. It is a natural extension of our restorative approach where relationships, respect and reflective dialogue remain at the heart of how we teach and how we grow together.
