Do dogs or cats make better pets?
This is the question the Grade 1/2's had to answer during one of their oral presentation topics. Each student in the class presented their opinions, giving facts about their animal of choice and making comparisons between the two. The students were eager to present and respectfully debate with one another, however there wasn't much to debate as the result was an overwhelming win for those who chose dogs. A massive 21 out of 24 students argued that dogs make a better pet!
As a special treat at the end of the presentations, 1/2 were treated to a very fluffy surprise... Ms Lloyd brought in Angel the 2-year-old Japanese Spitz for a short visit! The students were very excited and had many great discussions about the loyalty of dogs and the fact that they may be pets (or working dogs like Chilli and Gelu), but they are still their own beings that have emotions and need to be treated respectfully.
Overall it was a fantastic topic that the students enjoyed thoroughly. Now on to the next topic: "Should children be forced to wear school uniforms to school?" I look forward to seeing what they have to say!
