Teachers in Focus

Carolyn Sutherland
After 18 years teaching at St Bedes College Mentone, I am very excited to join the vibrant community of Killester College. At my previous school I taught both junior and senior English and was a homeroom teacher for combined groups of year 10,11 and 12 students.
It has been exciting to start my journey with my wonderfully welcoming year 10 students, as their homeroom teacher, and also branch out and teach in the RE area this year.
I look forward to this new journey in such a spirited and hospitable environment, and will work tirelessly to persuade all my students that English is the best subject in the school!

My name is Tom Schofield and I joined the wonderful Killester community at the beginning of this year. I teach both junior and senior English as well as working as part of the Learning Diversity team as a Learning Support Officer.
This is the first school that I have worked at after completing undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at The University of Melbourne and am thrilled to be a part of what is such an excellent environment. Working alongside such a welcoming and supportive staff to academically and holistically better the young people of KC is such a fulfilling experience, one which I enjoy contributing to every day.
Personally, I enjoy my sport and the great outdoors. My ideal weekend consists of surfing, fishing, watching my mighty Pies win and finishing the evening with a good book by the fire.
Killester is a special place and I am lucky to be apart of it.

2025 marks my 15th year in teaching - wow!
My passions are anything Visual and Performing Arts but in particular Film and Video. Though initially I went to Deakin University as a contemporary dancer but completed my Bachelor specialising in methods; Media and Drama. Prior to teaching I worked in a small production company as a Video Editor and briefly edited for AFL Media before deciding to move into teaching, where there is more job security!
My previous experiences in teaching have included both teaching (media/drama) and directing and being involved in many school productions at Heathmont College, Nazareth College, Aquinas College and St. Joseph's College. The bulk of my teaching was with all boys, so as you can imagine there has been a fair bit of adjusting now that I am here at Killester College!
I have an eight year old daughter, Scarlett who is my world. We love to sing and perform, watch movies and musicals, visit galleries and attend ACMI exhibitions. I also have a chocolate labrador named Bowie (yes, after David Bowie). Killester College had been on radar for a number of years and now that I’m here I thank you all for making me feel so welcome!
