Year 1 Cockatoos and Kangaroos
It has been a wonderful start to Term 4 in Year 1!
In English, we have been exploring persuasive writing through the fun and engaging story The Day the Crayons Quit. We have been reading and discussing the crayons’ persuasive letters, identifying the reasons they gave for quitting and the persuasive language they used. We then used these ideas to write our own persuasive letters to convince the crayons to come back!
In Mathematics, we have been working with number lines, finding and locating numbers, and developing our understanding of addition and subtraction strategies. We have been using a range of hands-on activities to build our confidence and explain our mathematical thinking.
In HASS, we have been learning about the states and territories of Australia. We have been exploring where each state and territory is located and learning some interesting facts about the different parts of our country.
We are so excited for our swimming lessons coming up! We can’t wait to get into the pool, have lots of fun and continue building our swimming skills and confidence in the water.
Year 4 Geckoes and Koalas
This month in Religious Education, we have been learning about the Rosary and practising how to use rosary beads reverently and correctly. Students explored the Mysteries of the Rosary, discussing the five stories within each mystery and reflecting on their significance. To support their learning, students created their own Rosary booklets, which they can use as a guide when praying the Rosary independently.
In Mathematics, we have been focusing on angles. Students have been learning to identify and classify different types of angles and have enjoyed searching for examples throughout our classroom and school environment. Did you know? Angles are everywhere in our daily lives, from road signs and buildings to playground equipment, sports, clocks and even the way we open doors. The students were surprised to discover just how many angles they encounter and use every day without even realising it!
In English, we have begun reading our new class novel, His Name Was Walter by Emily Rodda. We have immersed ourselves in the rich vocabulary of the text and have been exploring the author's creative writing techniques. Students have been fascinated by the way the story is centred around a story within a story, and we have been investigating how Emily Rodda builds suspense and mystery through her careful word choices, descriptive language and storytelling techniques.
Finally, the class is very excited to be participating in their MAD (Make A Difference) project with Mrs O'Meara. Students are eagerly exploring ways they can make a positive impact within our school and wider community, and we look forward to sharing more about their wonderful ideas and initiatives throughout the term.
