A Term of Discovery, Creativity and Connection in Grade 5/6
It has been another exciting and productive term in Grade 5/6, with students engaging in rich learning experiences across all areas of the curriculum.
Writing
In writing this term, students explored discussion texts, learning to examine different perspectives and support their opinions with convincing evidence. They then selected issues of interest to develop their own discussion pieces. More recently, our writers have turned their attention to suspense narratives, experimenting with personification, false moments of safety and the slow release of information to keep readers on the edge of their seats!

Discovery
Discovery has been a major focus through our inquiry question: How can we make healthy, safe and respectful choices? Students participated in the ‘EveryBODY Education’ program facilitated by Sexual Health Victoria, building their understanding of respectful relationships, personal safety, growing and changing, and informed decision-making. They also applied their learning by creating campaigns designed to educate and inspire others to make healthy, safe and respectful choices.
Mathematics
In Mathematics, students have been investigating location and transformations. Across our maths groups, they have completed coordinate quests and explored translation, reflection and rotation using Cartesian planes. They also applied their understanding to create intricate designs featuring tessellations and symmetry.
Reading
In Reading, students have explored a range of First Nations texts, including traditional Dreaming stories. They have examined the important messages communicated through these stories, made thoughtful inferences and supported their interpretations with evidence from the text. These learning experiences have encouraged respectful discussion and a deeper appreciation of the connections between stories, Country, culture and the natural world.
We are incredibly proud of the curiosity, creativity and enthusiasm our Grade 5/6 students have demonstrated this term. We wish all our students and families a lovely and restful holiday break, and we look forward to another big term of learning in Term 4!
