Book Week

Book Week at Solway

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are excited to announce that Solway will begin its Book Week celebrations on Friday 21 August. Students will participate in a Book Week Parade at 9:00am on the basketball courts. Parents and carers are most welcome to attend and join in the fun. We encourage everyone to come along and celebrate our love of books and reading with the students by dressing up book character from one of your favourite books.

Special Author Visit – Marc McBride

Following the parade, students in Years 3–6 will enjoy two presentations from Marc McBride, illustrator of the New York Times best-selling Deltora Quest series.

Marc has illustrated the Deltora Quest series as well as thirteen additional picture books, including The Glimme, written by Emily Rodda and an Honour Book in the 2020 CBCA Awards, The Song of Lewis Carmichael (2021), The House on Pleasant Street (2022), The Glow (2023) and A Friend for Ruby (2023).

Perform Education – Something Special

We are also delighted to be hosting Perform Education, who will present a live performance of Something Special on Wednesday 26 August at 9:00am.

Something Special is a play created around the themes and concepts explored in this year's shortlisted books and promises to be an engaging and entertaining experience for our students.

More Book Week Activities

Throughout Book Week, students will also take part in a range of exciting activities, including:

  • Art and craft activities for each year level, inspired by a selection of this year's shortlisted books.

  • A Book in a Day challenge for students in Years 3–6, where students will immerse themselves in writing a book in teams across the school day.

  • A special Masked Reader Assembly, where students will have the opportunity to guess the identity of a series of mystery readers.

We look forward to celebrating the joy of reading, storytelling and imagination with our students throughout Book Week. We hope our families will join us for the parade and help make this a memorable celebration of books and reading.

Happy Book Week!
