What’s been happening in Year 5 / 6?
It has been another productive and exciting few weeks in Year 5/6! The curiosity our students have been displaying across the curriculum has been outstanding!
In Literacy, we have introduced our new class novel, Songlines: The Power and Promise by Margo Neale and Lynne Kelly. Through this engaging text, students will explore and develop their visual literacy skills, learning how images, symbols and text work together to communicate meaning and deepen our understanding. Margo Ngawa Neale and Lynne Kelly invite our students on a journey through the oldest, biggest library of knowledge on Earth. This knowledge isn't held in books: it is found in Songlines of the land, sea and sky.
Our Year 6 leaders have also commenced their visits to Camberwell Green Aged Care. These visits provide a wonderful opportunity for our students to connect with the residents, share stories and conversations, and build meaningful relationships across generations. It has already been a very positive and rewarding experience for everyone involved.
We are also continuing our journey of curiosity and innovation through the Kids in Space program. After weeks of researching, questioning, designing and refining ideas, students have now reached the exciting stage of creating their prototypes using 3D printing. There is plenty of creativity and problem-solving happening in our classrooms as ideas begin to come to life!
We are looking forward to celebrating and sharing the students’ hard work at the Kids in Space Showcase Day on Tuesday, 25 August.
Finally, a group of year six students this week presented some of the exciting learning and leadership activities they have been involved with to our staff at the weekly staff meeting. All the year six students have an opportunity to do this at least once across the course of the year. The staff were blown away by the confidence and clarity with which our young leaders presented. Congratulations to our school leaders for all that they do to help make St Cecilia's the wonderful place of learning that it is.
