Head of Primary Years' Report

Dear parents, carers and our community of Hazel Glen College,

Thank you for attending our Primary Years Community BBQ this week. These events are a chance for our families to build connections with each other and with the College community. There were lots of activities, including HFactor, face painting, lawn games and everyone enjoyed the food provided from the BBQ and the icypoles. We look forward to many more fun events such as this one throughout the year.

Our students and staff take part in regular Voice Sessions to describe what is going well at our College and how we can continue to make improvements. Part of these conversations is what sets us apart and we continue to feel proud of our staff and how they invest in their students, connect as teams and with our community. The subjects we offer are engaging and our facilities are state of the art, with students taking classes in specially designed labs and learning spaces. Our senior Primary students have regular food technology classes, making use of the College kitchen teaching space, STEAM precinct and the Science lab where they take part in Science experiments.

Today is International Women's Day and the theme this year is Give to Gain. We recognise and acknowledge this important day and encourage our staff and students to continue to build awareness. Give To Gain emphasises the power of reciprocity and support. When people, organisations, and communities give generously, opportunities and support for women increase.  When women thrive, we all rise. As a College we continue to give time, encouragement and support to help others.

If you are a parent of a Year 6 student this year, we encourage you to attend our Year 7 tours to learn and see about how our amazing programs and supports continue into the Secondary Years of schooling. Our transition programs are designed to ensure a seamless transition from Primary to Secondary Years. Please book a tour and begin building the partnerships and connections with our Secondary Years staff and learning facilities.

We are noticing many students being dropped off at the College early in the morning, often when staff are not in attendance and prior to the yard being supervised. This is a safety issue as students are in the school grounds unsupervised for extended periods of time. If you require early drop-offs, please book your children into the Before School Care program. This way, safety and duty of care is upheld.

Last week, we held Odd Shoes Friday, where staff wore odd shoes for the day. Our students were curious for the day with lots of questions and wonderings about why everyone was wearing odd shoes. A thank you to Miss Davies and the FISH team for promoting events that are fun and engaging for all. We look forward to our next mystery.

We are hosting morning coffee and chats for prospective prep parents for 2027. We invite families to join us to find out more about school life at Hazel Glen College. Leadership will be in attendance to share and answer any questions you may have regarding your child starting school next year.
