Liturgy Leaders

Lent is a time of preparation for Easter when we reflect on our choices. We ask God to forgive us and we try to be more like Him. We also remember the important days of Lent and Easter like Shrove Tuesday, Ash Wednesday, Holy Thursday, and Good Friday. As Liturgy Leaders, we have worked hard this season organizing the Ash Wednesday Mass, leading a liturgy for the Preps, and leading our Monday morning liturgies. We grow closer to God as one community by making better choices and loving our neighbors. Let’s remember this Lent to be the best version of ourselves.

During Lent, we have been having Monday liturgies on the basketball court where the whole school meets, instead of the online meetings we usually do. All families are more than welcome to join us! During these special times, we also gather in the church for Mass or liturgy, particularly on Ash Wednesday when we received ashes on our foreheads in the shape of a cross. We have been watching different Caritas videos and raising money for those in need. We are also hosting a paraliturgy on Holy Thursday before the term ends, so stay tuned.

During Lent we fast to reflect on how lucky we are to have food on our table every day. When we give things up, we don't choose things necessary for survival like water, but rather treats or habits. This year, Raphael (3/4F) is giving up devices, while Miranda (3/4F) is skipping ice cream. Andre and Venus (1/2D) are giving up apples and strawberries, and a group including Izac, Oliver Y, and Aaryanna (5/6L), along with Israel (5/6J), are all giving up lollies. Other commitments include Julian (5/6L) giving up fizzy drinks, Leo T (5/6L) passing on McDonalds, and Leilani giving up wearing her Elsa dress. Some are even adding helpful habits, like Harper (Prep A) who has decided to help cook dinner.

At our school, we have a Mini Vinnies. They are a group of St. Leonard’s students who set goals for our charity donations. Our school has chosen to support Caritas Australia, which helps people around the world living in difficult conditions. Our goal is to reach $2,000, and every Monday, Mini Vinnies updates us on our progress. So far, we have raised $120! To donate, please use the box in your classroom. Each class also has two Caritas posters pinned up; once we reach a set goal, we color them in. Reaching these goals means we are helping Caritas provide safer living conditions for people in need.

Mini Vinnies

The Mini Vinnies would like to announce that Project Compassion is our school’s main fundraiser for Lent.

We kindly ask that children generously donate to the Project Compassion boxes, which are located at each child’s prayer table. On the 24th of February, our school raised $120. Our ultimate goal is to raise $2,000.

We are raising this money to support those affected by the war in Gaza, helping them get enough funding for doctors and medical care.

Thank you for your support!
