Child Studies News

Last week, the Year 10 Child Studies classes swapped their textbooks for mixing bowls. The students set out to master the art of making homemade playdough—a staple resource in early childhood education.

Working in small groups, the students measured out flour, salt, oil, water, and cream of tartar, learning that precision is key to avoiding a sticky mess and finding the perfect ‘squish’ factor! While it looks like simple fun, playdough is a powerhouse for child development. The students discussed how squeezing and rolling the dough builds fine motor skills, which are essential for children learning to write.
