The Issue Highlights

Dear Families,

Happy Diwali!

Happy Diwali to our Hindu families and staff. Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, is a Hindu religious festival and one of the most important festivals within Hinduism. This year Diwali falls between Thursday 31 Oct 2024 at 9:22 pm to Friday 1 Nov 2024 at 11:46 pm.

Spooky Dress Up

Thank you to all the students who dressed up on Thursday. You all looked very scary! Halloween has definitely grown in popularity in recent years. Halloween (All Hallows Eve) originated as a Celtic pagan festival that dates back to more than 2,000 years. In Celtic times, 31st October was the end of the year. The festival would see people light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts.

If you weren't able to "trick or treat" on Thursday evening, then I hope students enjoyed the day dressing up at school.

Melbourne Cup Long Weekend

There is no school on Monday 4th November. This is a pupil free day for teachers to start their end of year reports. Tuesday 5th November is a public holiday due to Melbourne Cup. Students return to school on Wednesday 6th November. School buses will operate as normal.

Values Week & Russ Jackson Day

Russell Jackson (25/8/15 - 03/11/13)
Russell Jackson (25/8/15 - 03/11/13)

On Friday 8th November we will celebrate Russ Jackson Day. In 1989 our school was renamed Jackson School to honour the work done by Russ Jackson. Russel was a volunteer at Jackson for over 20 years; he was gardener/handyman, caretaker and School Council President. One of his main initiatives was setting up the gardening program. Because of this, we celebrate "Values Week" in Week 5 every year to highlight what is means to be a Jackson Learner in Russ' name. Our students strive to display our values (Learning, Independence, Safety, Respect, Responsibility) everyday by displaying the employability skills (Communication, Team Work/Collaboration, Problem-solving, Initiative and Enterprise, Planning and Organising, Self-Awareness & Management, Learning, Technology). On Friday our students will take part in volunteering activities around the school in memory of Russ Jackson.
