Term 4 Week 1                                                                                                   9 October 2026

From the Principal

Hi Everyone,

Welcome back everybody! I hope you had a truly wonderful holiday. Wasn't the weather just gorgeous? I hope all your children had a great first week back and are ready and raring for this term! I certainly have had a wonderful first week back.

We don't have any new staff joining us, but I do want to say a big welcome to Ms Germaine Lo, who is one of our teachers and is taking over teaching Prep A, now that Mrs Curtis has gone on maternity leave. Changing teachers can leave children a little bit uneasy throughout a year, so it is wonderful when they have someone who they are familiar with.

Today we had a special treat, as Mrs Trudy Weekes had organised a concert by the John Curro National Youth Concerto and it was just amazing! They really are incredible musicians and great entertainers. Thank you to all the recitalists for coming and sharing your music with ironside state school and thank you to Mrs Trudy Weekes for organising it.

Next week we have Music Fest on Tuesday. A large group of Strings and Band Instrumental Music students from right across our school will be involved at the Old Museum. It should be a wonderful day. All the very best to our musicians and Mr Kukulies and Mrs Weekes.

Schools have lots of things going on all the time and of course Ironside State School is no different. It is important that our children get to enjoy all that is offered here. The only way they can do that is to be at school on time and in class on time. We are going to have a strong focus on that this term, and I have let the P&C and School Council know this. I actively encourage you to talk to your children to make sure that they are conscious of getting to school on time and then straight into class when the bell goes. More broadly our focus is on being organised. So, hearing that bell and making sure you go to the toilet if you need to, filling your water bottle if you need to, lining up and being ready. These are great skills for school but also essential skills for life.

There are lot of great activities on offer right across our school each lunchtime. The timetable is attached below. Please take the time to talk to your children about what is on offer.

Religious instruction kicks off again next week and I want to thank all our volunteers who come in week in and week out to provide this instruction to our children. We are very grateful for this commitment to religious instruction.

On Monday it will be the Prep to Year 3 Merit Assembly, and we will have the Year 2 Choir performing which will be just wonderful, so I hope to see you there

I am very excited because on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday next week I will be at the Year 5 Camp at Tyalgum in New South Wales. Tyalgum is such a beautiful place to go for a camp and we do wonderful activities. I'm really looking forward to spending time with the children and our staff - aren’t I lucky?! Thank you to Mrs Tara Griffin who will be the principal in my absence.

We sent out the most up-to-date calendar yesterday, so please check it out so that you know all the things that are going on this term. We have a really busy and wonderful time ahead of us. Our Spring Fair is this term! Please make sure that one is on your calendar and that you keep your eyes out for information about volunteering or donating in the lead up to it. The Spring Fair is on Saturday the 7th of November save the date!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend, and I look forward to seeing you soon.

P.S. At the end of last term, a toddler was left by themselves sleeping in a car very early in the morning, on Central Avenue, where a lot of people park for OSHC drop-off and pick-up. Please, never, ever leave a child in a car. The things that could happen to a child left in a car are endless. A child staying sleeping in a car while you dash in to run an errand, is never worth the possible outcomes.
