Principal's Report

Dear Parents,
It’s hard to believe we’ve already reached the final week of term and what a fantastic term it has been! There have been so many highlights and achievements to celebrate.
This week has been particularly special for our Year Six students, who received the Sacrament of Confirmation. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to each of them on reaching this significant milestone in their faith journey. Surrounded by their families, friends, and our school community, the students were blessed with the gifts of the Holy Spirit and encouraged to live their faith with courage, compassion, and integrity. We are so proud of their commitment and pray they continue to grow in wisdom and grace.
We had a very exciting Footy Day Parade on Wednesday morning. A big thanks to Mr Stokes and Mr Adaman for running an energetic and fun-filled morning! It was great to be able to celebrate our footy teams and share in a morning as a community!
A big thank you to our wonderful PFA for organising and running the school disco last Friday night. It was a fantastic evening filled with fun, laughter, and of course, some impressive dance moves! The children had a blast, and our fabulous DJ kept the energy high with a great playlist. We’re so grateful to all those who helped make the night such a success.
We also want to congratulate Sandaru and Yasiru for representing our school in the Northern Star Junior Chess Tournament. Sandaru has progressed to the semi finals, a fantastic achievement! Yasiru, competing in his very first official tournament, played brilliantly, winning two games and drawing two. Well done to both boys for their outstanding efforts!
Prime Minister’s Spelling Bee:
This Term, there was a selected number of students who sat The Prime Minister’s Spelling Bee. The Spelling Bee is a national competition aimed at promoting and challenging student’s spelling abilities.
All participating St. Leonard’s students sat the initial ‘spelling bee’.
The entrants’ results ranked according to:
Accuracy: How many spelling words are correctly submitted out of 30.
AND Time: The time it takes for the entrant to spell and submit each word will be recorded. Each entrant’s cumulative time to complete all 30 words will be recorded down to the millisecond.
To qualify for State/Territory Finals our students needed to place in the top 200 of their age group, of all entrants in Victoria. There were over 87,000 entries in the Spelling Bee this year across all age groups and some placements came down to the thousandth of a second.
St. Leonard's had 3 students that placed in the top 200 in Victoria and therefore made it to the Prime Minister’s Spelling Bee State finals.
We congratulate the following 3/4 students on this amazing achievement:
- Amaya
- Shravani
- Jaye
These 3 State finalists have since completed their next round. Now we wait to see if anyone ranks in the top 3 and therefore will be eligible for the National Final. Good luck and congratulations again to these students.
Wishing all our families a safe, happy, and relaxing holiday break. We look forward to welcoming everyone back in two weeks.
Kind regards,
Alyce Lowther
