Junior Hoop Time Basketball

On Monday 7th September, 64 Year 3 and 4 students represented our school at Junior Hoop Time Basketball at Diamond Valley Sports Complex.

POPS entered nine teams across the three divisions – All Stars, Future Stars and Rookies. It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to put their basketball skills into practice, compete against other schools and, most importantly, enjoy playing basketball with their friends.

Throughout the day, our students showed effort, teamwork and resilience, supporting their teammates and representing POPS with pride. While none of our teams progressed through to the Grand Final, students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and embraced the opportunity to compete against different schools.

Here’s what some of our students had to say:

“Our team, ‘Future Stars Pelicans’ won all our pool games and tried our best in the semi-finals. Unfortunately, we lost. Thanks to my dad for coaching.” – Jack M

“POPS were really good sports, always encouraging and supporting each other.” – Georgia K

“The All Star boys team finished 3rd in our pool and nearly made the finals. A big thanks to Joel and Katie for helping out.” – Sonny H

“Although the stadium was really cold, our Rookie team pushed through and tried our best. We played 4 games.” – Millie

“I played in the Future Stars Girls team. We had lots and lots of fun. Thanks to Mr Birrell for coaching.” – Darcy C

“I played in the All Star girls team, and I loved playing with everyone. We won 2 games and lost 2 games but sadly didn’t make the finals. We had lots of fun anyway.” – Evie B

“I had lots of fun playing basketball with my friends. It was very competitive and physical. Thank you to Alicia for coaching the All Star girls team.” – Layla C

“I had lots of fun playing basketball with my friends but sadly we didn’t make finals.” – Jackson F

“I played in the Future Stars team and we learn't how to pass and rebound. We also learn't how to spread out on the court to receive a ball. It was really fun because we got to play against different schools.” – Ava D

“It was a really good experience playing in the All Stars division. The other schools were tough.” – Zara I

huge thank you to our wonderful parent community for coaching, scoring, supporting and assisting our teams throughout the day. Your help made it possible for so many students to participate and enjoy this fantastic experience.
