Career Education Workshops

Last week, Year 9 students attended a range of Career Education workshops. The focus was for students to explore career options, learn what to consider when making pathway choices, and gain an understanding of career journeys across different industries. Students participated in sessions about resumes, employer expectations, entry level jobs, and Vocational Education and Training programs.

Thank you to the support from the following presenters and organisations:

Sharon Warrick (WSMLLEN), David Crooks & Brendan Schier (Skillinvest) Leah Graham (McDonalds), Casey Nelson (Bunnings), Jaclyn Clode (Nursing), Amanda McFarlane (One Tree Community Services) , Claire Bibby (Agriculture) and Colby McDonald and Larnie Fischer (St Brigid's College).

Students continued to explore careers and pathways by participating in Work Experience and Industry Tasters.

Year 9 Student Agency Group

Students from our Year 9 Student Agency Group recently joined primary and secondary schools from across our DOBCEL region for the Student Agency Forum.

The day was expertly facilitated by Jean Stiles (Canadian expert in Student Agency), David Runge (Director of Future Schools), and Julie Petrov (Strategy Implementation Manager, DOBCEL).

Students explored what makes a great school and how student voice and agency can shape learning, wellbeing and the school environment.

Students are excited to bring their insights back to our school as we continue our strong commitment to listening to student voices. We can’t wait to see what our Year 9 Student Agency group does next!

Well done Joel!

St Brigid's College Year 7 student, Joel Dooling, recently had the amazing opportunity to attend the re_B00TCMP program in Melbourne, run by the Australian Federal Police. With only 40 students selected to attend, Joel had the unique opportunity to explore ethical hacking and cyber career pathways, alongside students from all around Victoria.

Throughout the day, Joel engaged in a series of presentations and workshops, conducted by professionals and mentors from law enforcement, the cyber security sector, the IT and software industry, and higher education institutions such as universities and TAFEs.

Joel's reflection on the day:

"The day went really well and the mentors were really nice. The speakers were inspiring and helped me understand how you can 'hack' in a good way and that there are heaps of different job opportunities in cyber. It was interesting to listen to Bastien Treptel and hear his story about turning from a life of cyber crime to being one of the biggest supporters of the fight against cyber crime. I was shown a heap of online programs that I had never heard of before, like Wireshark, and I got to experiment with these along with the other participants. I really had to step outside of my comfort zone, but I am proud that I did it."

Bright Sparks!

The Bright Sparks program is officially underway! Grade 4, 5 and 6 students from many different primary schools joined us last week for an afternoon of exciting workshops.

With over 90 students enrolled, the program provides a wonderful opportunity for students to explore different learning areas, meet students from other schools, and begin to feel familiar in our secondary school environment.
