School Wide Positive Behaviour Support
Weeks 7 & 8
Special Education students have been showing fabulous respect to staff this week. They have been focusing on our SWPBS expectation of "I follow staff instructions" and are demonstrating this consistently throughout the school day. Well done to everyone for their positive efforts!
District Cross Country
We had a small cohort compete at the Hume Region Cross Country in Benalla on Friday 12 June. Congratulations to our Special Education students who have progressed to the next level; we are very proud of your achievements! 🏅🏅🏅
Blue Room Report
It has been a wonderful second Term of the year for our Blue Room students!
Over the term, students have worked hard to develop many fundamental skills. We have seen great growth in fine motor skills through activities such as drawing, painting, cutting, tearing and pasting, threading, puzzles, and other play-based learning experiences. Students are becoming more confident using their hands and fingers for daily tasks.
Our students have also made excellent progress in self-help skills. They are practising independence by unpacking their bags when prompted, putting away belongings and packing up after learning activities, washing hands, managing meal routines, and asking for help when needed.
A strong focus this term has been on emotional regulation. With staff support, students are learning to recognise their feelings and use various strategies to help them stay calm and ready to learn. We are proud of the way students are beginning to communicate their needs and use regulation tools and calming spaces provided.
Classroom routines are now becoming well established. Students are learning daily expectations, transitioning between activities with support, following individual visual schedules, and participating in group learning experiences. Consistent routines have helped students feel safe, confident, and successful at school.
We are very proud of all the progress our Blue Room students have made and look forward to continuing their learning journey next term.

Changing Gears
We were lucky to have the Changing Gears program again this year at school, with two of our Special Education students participating. Changing Gears is a program where people within our school and community get their Learners permit. Over the past three years we have helped 15 students and a member of our community get their Learners permit successfully.
This is a great program, and I had the pleasure of assisting Lucas and Vincent get their Learners with the help of the trainer, Nikki. We started on Tuesday and we worked hard over three days to ensure that both Lucas and Vincent passed. There is a lot of theory that needs to be done, as there are three sections that need to be successfully passed before going on to sit the test. These are:
- Learning what road signs are and what they mean
- Keeping and maintaining safe distances between cars and other road users
- Speed limits and the importance they are in all weather conditions
- The importance of not having any drugs or alcohol when wanting to drive
Lucas and Vinnie learnt so much and they both did so well! A highlight for them would have to be when they tried on the “beer goggles”. Both Lucas and Vinnie wore these and tried to walk around the room and I asked if they could drive a car with the way they were feeling. They both answered no, as they didn’t like the way the glasses made them feel and limited their eyesight.
Well done boys, congratulations!
