Brain Olympia Recount
It was an early morning on Wednesday 10th of September boarding the bus at 5am and travelling to Gunnedah for the Brain Olympia Finals. We took two teams, Orange Team
( Lara, Alice, Tilly G, Charlotte, Kash, Sam B, Ruby and Caitlin) and Pink Team ( Josie, Macie, Josh, Angus, Ayla, Phoebe, Ellie and Sam S). We arrived at St Xavier's Gunnedah school gates and got ourselves all organised. We found our team tables and talked for a moment about having good team work and encouraging everyone.
The day started off with the general knowledge questions where there were 5 rounds, 10 questions in each. There were different categories which consisted of English, Science, HSIE, famous people, places and events and current affairs; each section was worth ten marks. The Orange team ended up with 25 points at the end of General knowledge and the Pink Team ended up with 28 points.
After that we had to prepare our public speakers for their speech about a fictional place in a book, movie or video game. We were then tasked with solving and answering some Maths questions, they were very difficult. After 40 - 45 minutes of testing our brains in Maths, we finally watched all our hard work being said as our speakers had to brave the nerves and get up in front of everyone and speak.
It was after lunch and we had to perform a play for our drama with the topic of ' The Time Travellers Mistake ', there were many different spins on the topic from dinosaurs to cavemen, some even went back to the medieval eras.
The day was wrapping up and the suspense was killing us. We wanted to know the winners sooo bad and then it came; we sat in our chairs, waiting for the announcement. Although neither of our teams won, our Pink team came runners up and our Orange team wasn’t far behind them either.
We all had a really great day and would like to thank Andrew for driving us to and from the event and a special thanks to our excellent coach Mrs Little, we wouldn’t have made it this far without her.
