We are officially halfway through Book Week 2026!! Book Week is a wonderful time of year where we celebrate Children’s literature and all things book related. It also means preparing for the annual challenge of finding a Book Week costume that is just right! After searching through wardrobes, visiting Spotlight, Kmart or the good old op shop, and trying to convince your child that "close enough" is sometimes good enough, the big day finally arrives. And what a joy it is! The Book Week Parade is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the creativity of our children as they proudly showcase their costumes, bring beloved characters to life and share the stories that have captured their imaginations.

 

At the heart of Book Week though is something we all enjoy: stories. Stories can transport us to faraway places, introduce us to unforgettable characters and teach us important lessons about life. Long after we finish reading a book, its message can stay with us and influence the way we think and act. Book Week is a time to celebrate the stories we love. As Christians, we know there is one story that is greater than any other. It is not a story of make-believe or fantasy. It is the true story of God's love for His people.

 

The Bible tells the incredible story of God's relationship with the world. From creation, to God's promises, to the birth, death and resurrection of Jesus, every part points us to God's love and faithfulness. It is a story that has been shared for thousands of years and continues to change lives today.

During Book Week, we can enjoy discovering new stories and revisiting old favourites. At the same time, we can remember to spend time in God's story. When we read the Bible, we are not simply learning facts. We are getting to know God better and discovering how He wants us to live. The Bible helps us understand who we are, how much we are loved and how we can share that love with others.

 

Every book on a library shelf eventually comes to an end. God's story, however, is still unfolding. Through faith in Jesus, each of us has a place in that story. What an amazing reminder that while we enjoy reading many wonderful books, we are also part of the greatest story ever told.

 

Dear God,

Thank You for the gift of stories that inspire our imagination, help us learn and bring us joy. During Book Week, help us to appreciate the many books we read and the people who write and share them.

Thank You most of all for the Bible and for the story of Your love revealed through Jesus. Help us to make time to read Your Word, to learn from it and to trust in Your promises. May Your story shape our hearts, guide our choices and help us share Your love with those around us.

Amen.
