The 2026 QGSSSA Winter season has reached its halfway mark, with Clayfield’s Hockey, Netball, Tennis and Volleyball teams continuing to build across each round of competition. With plenty still to play for in the weeks ahead, the ladders remain closely contested, with our Open Tennis teams currently leading the way at the top of the table.

This Saturday, attention turns to St Hilda’s, as our teams look to carry their mid-season momentum into another important round of QGSSSA competition. We wish all players and coaches every success across the weekend.

Our Senior Boys Sport programs are equally busy. The BBI Club Basketball season has progressed to Round 11, while preparations continue for another exciting term of Touch Football at Arana, providing further opportunities for our boys to compete and develop across the semester.

On the trails, our Mountain Biking team continues an action-packed season. Following the recent Rocky Trail Academy Sunshine Coast event in Caloundra, riders are back in action at Castle Hill, Ipswich, taking on another challenging course and valuable racing experience.

Meanwhile, the countdown to the QGSSSA Athletics Championships on Thursday 17 September is gathering pace. Training continues across track and field, with our athletes now entering an important phase of preparation through the Friday Night Lead-Up Meets as they sharpen performances ahead of the Championships.

With courts, fields, tracks and trails all in action, it is another wonderfully busy period for Clayfield College Sport. We thank our students, coaches, staff and families for the energy and support they continue to bring to our programs each week.

Eden Campbell Tees Up State Age Success

Year 8 student Eden Campbell enjoyed an outstanding result on the golf course recently, competing at the NSW Junior State Age Golf Championships.

Taking on a quality field of emerging junior golfers, Eden produced an impressive tournament performance to claim 1st place in the 14 Years Girls Nett competition, a fantastic achievement at state-age championship level.

The result adds another exciting milestone to Eden’s golfing journey and reflects the skill and consistency she continues to develop in the sport.

Congratulations, Eden, on a wonderful achievement and a memorable result on the interstate stage!

Riley Taylor Takes on the National Stage

Riley recently took to the national stage, representing Queensland at the School Sport Australia 14 Years & Under Australian Football Championships in Melbourne.

Queensland produced an impressive opening campaign to finish on top of their pool and progress to the finals. After a fiercely contested finals series, the team narrowly missed the podium, falling to Victoria in the bronze medal match.

For Riley, the championships provided an invaluable opportunity to test herself against some of Australia’s leading young footballers and gain experience at the highest level of school sport.

And there is plenty more ahead. Riley continues her development as part of the Brisbane Lions Academy, adding another exciting chapter to an already impressive AFL journey.

Congratulations, Riley, on representing Queensland and Clayfield with distinction on the national stage.

Britton Shield AFL - U12s Crowned Champions

Our Britton Shield AFL teams took to Limestone Park on Tuesday, producing an exciting day of football against strong competition from Brisbane Boys’ College and Ipswich Junior Grammar School.

The U12 team delivered an outstanding campaign, combining skilful ball movement and strong team play to finish 1st overall and claim the 2026 Britton Shield U12 AFL Trophy. It was a fantastic reward for the boys and coaches following their preparation throughout the season.

Our U10 team also enjoyed a strong competition, battling hard across the day to secure an impressive 3rd-place finish.

Congratulations to all players on their performances and the way they represented Clayfield College throughout the competition. A special congratulations to our U12 team on bringing the trophy home to Clayfield!

Andrews Cup Athletics - Championship Day Awaits

After weeks of training and three valuable Metro lead-up meets, the countdown is on to the 2026 Andrews Cup Athletics Competition.

Next Thursday, our athletes will head to QSAC ready to put their preparation into action across the track and field. We wish the entire team every success as they embrace the opportunity to compete alongside some of the strongest young athletes in the Andrews Cup competition.

Event Details:

• Date: Thursday 20 August
• Time: 9:10am to 2:30pm
• Venue: QSAC, 400 Kessels Road, Brisbane

Logistics

• Students are to assemble at the Tuckshop at 7:00am for bus transport to QSAC.
• All athletes will return to the College by bus following the conclusion of the competition.
• Parents wishing to collect their child directly from QSAC must sign them out with Miss Amy Lewin in the grandstand following presentations.

Important Information

• A canteen will operate throughout the event. Students should still bring morning tea, lunch, healthy snacks and sufficient water for the day. Families may provide a small amount of cash if they would like their child to purchase from the canteen.
• Spikes are permitted; however, athletes must carry them to the marshalling area and remove them immediately after completing their event.
