Meteorology - Year 1 Earth Science

This term in Systemic Knowledge, our Grade 1 students will be exploring Meteorology as they learn about weather, Earth's natural resources and how we can care for our environment. Throughout the unit, students will investigate the importance of clean air, fresh water and healthy land for all living things, and discover how pollution can impact people, plants and animals. They will also learn practical ways to protect our planet by reducing waste, reusing items and recycling.

Students will develop their scientific inquiry skills by asking questions, making predictions, observing and recording weather and environmental changes using their senses and simple measuring tools, and comparing their findings with their original predictions.

First Nations Peoples of Australia - Year 1 History & Geography

Grade 1 students will also be exploring First Nations Peoples of Australia. Students will learn about the deep and enduring connection Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples have with Country and Place, and why these connections are culturally, spiritually and environmentally significant. They will also investigate the history of a local place of importance and discover how it has changed over time while continuing to hold meaning for the community.

Throughout the unit, students will build their understanding by asking questions, sharing ideas, examining historical sources and exploring the significance of local places. They will develop an appreciation of Australia's First Nations cultures and recognise the importance of caring for and respecting Country and Place.

Community Traditions, History and Development Over Time - Year 2 History

This term, our Grade 2 students will explore how communities change over time and why it is important to remember and celebrate our shared history. Students will investigate the history of a local place of historical, social, cultural or spiritual significance and discover how it has changed over the years. They will compare the past and present using photographs, maps, stories and other historical sources.

Students will also learn about the different ways families and communities commemorate important events and traditions. Through class discussions and activities, they will share their own family celebrations and commemorations while developing an understanding of how these special occasions help people remember the past, strengthen community connections and celebrate cultural diversity.

Throughout the unit, students will build their historical inquiry skills by asking questions, examining evidence, identifying changes over time and sharing their findings with others. This unit encourages students to appreciate the rich histories, traditions and stories that shape our local community and Australia today.

Body and Emotional Change- Year 2 Health & Human Biology

Grade 2 students will explore how their bodies and relationships change as they grow. Students will learn about the physical, social and emotional changes that occur during childhood and discuss how families and communities celebrate important milestones and achievements as children grow older.

As part of this unit, students will investigate the amazing ways their bodies work by identifying major body parts, including the skeletal system and muscles, and exploring how these systems help us move, grow and stay healthy. They will also develop an understanding of how healthy habits, such as eating nutritious foods, being physically active and getting enough rest, support growing bodies.

Through discussions, hands-on activities and collaborative learning, students will build their understanding of personal growth, celebrate the uniqueness of each individual and learn how families and communities support children as they grow and develop.

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL): Year 1 & 2 

We will continue to work through the Resilience, Rights, and Respectful Relationships Program (RRRR). This program supports schools and early childhood settings in promoting and modelling respect, positive attitudes, and behaviours. It

teaches our children how to build healthy relationships, resilience, and confidence.

Using the RRRR Program, and with support from Open Parachute and Zones of Regulations, we aim to help build positive social interactions across our class and the whole school community.
