Mathematics in Term 3

In Term 3, our Grade 1/2 students will continue learning mathematics through the Explicit Maths Program (EMP) at Sunshine Heights Primary School. This evidence-informed program is designed to build strong mathematical understanding while developing students’ confidence and problem-solving skills.

The Explicit Maths Program uses a clear and structured approach to teaching. New concepts are carefully explained, modelled, and practised, allowing students to learn step-by-step in a supportive environment. This helps ensure all students have the opportunity to succeed and build a solid foundation in mathematics.

As part of our daily maths lessons, students will:

  • Participate in review sessions of previously taught concepts to strengthen memory and reinforce learning
  • Engage in fluency activities to build accuracy, speed, and flexibility when working with numbers
  • Develop their ability to explain their thinking and apply skills to solve problems

This consistent approach supports students to become confident and capable mathematicians.
