Principal's Report

Welcome back to all our students, staff and parents to Term 3 at Gardenvale PS, which we are sure will be busy but a most rewarding term! Excitement is building for our musical ‘Showdown’ the last week of this term, week beginning Monday 14th September.  I can guarantee we are all in for a treat when we watch our very talented cast perform this musical written by our Tom and Julie Pitts. 

A reminder that this Friday 24th July is our whole school Showdown! Dress-Up Day!

Students are encouraged to come dressed as a character from the musical, including Cool Kids, Alternative Kids, Sporty Kids, Hippies or even a teacher!

Year 5 and 6 cast members should come to school in their costumes for cast photos (which will be now taken from 2.00pm to 3.30pm), while Prep to Year 4 cast members should wear or bring black leggings, with the remainder of their costume provided at school.

We can't wait to see everyone's creativity and enthusiasm as we celebrate our upcoming school musical, Showdown! 

NAPLAN

Last week, our Year 3 and Year 5 NAPLAN results were sent home to families. While NAPLAN provides a valuable snapshot of student achievement at a point in time, it forms just one part of the comprehensive assessment information we use to monitor student learning and progress.

We are incredibly proud of our students' achievements. These excellent results reflect our students' commitment to their learning, the high quality of teaching across our school, and the ongoing support and encouragement provided by our families.

NAPLAN results provide information about how students are performing in literacy and numeracy and help inform improvements in teaching and learning. They also enable schools to compare student achievement against the national proficiency standards, as well as with students from similar schools and across school networks.

The tables below show the percentage of our Year 3 and Year 5 students achieving in the Strong and Exceeding proficiency bands. Our results are compared with those of Similar Schools (schools with a comparable socio-economic profile) and our Bayside Network Schools. State-wide data has not yet been released and will be included once it becomes available.

Student Vs Staff Netball Match 

On the last day of Term 2 we were all thoroughly entertained watching the Student versus Staff Netball Match. There were some spectacular skills on display from both teams.  Even though one of the teams did have a bit of a height advantage the scores were very close. The staff narrowly emerged victorious with a final score of 17 - 20.

Car Parking and Road Safety Concerns

We continue to receive complaints from school families and our local neighbours about parking around the school. Please ensure you follow all parking restrictions, including 2-minute parking zones, No Parking areas and designated accessible parking spaces. If you are using a 2-minute parking space, you may briefly leave your vehicle to assist your child in and out safely, but your vehicle must not remain in the space for longer than 2 minutes, even if you stay with it. We also ask that you do not walk away from your vehicle.

Please be respectful of our school community and neighbours by parking legally at all times, including not blocking or parking across driveways. Your cooperation helps keep everyone safe and allows all families fair access to drop-off and pick-up areas.

As we continue to encourage our students to be safe and responsible members of our community, we ask all families to model safe road-crossing behaviours. Please use the supervised pedestrian crossings and avoid crossing between parked cars or at other unsafe locations. Children learn by watching the adults around them, and by setting a positive example, we can all help keep our school community safe.
