At Sacred Heart, we are committed to ensuring every child feels safe, valued and supported. Grounded in our Catholic belief in the dignity of every person, child safety is a shared responsibility reflected in our everyday interactions, practices and decisions.
This week, staff continued working through Child Safe Standards 8 and 9, focusing on the knowledge and skills adults need to keep children safe and the importance of safe physical and online environments.
Standard 8: Building knowledge and skills
This standard focuses on equipping staff and volunteers with the knowledge, skills and awareness to keep children safe through ongoing education and training. Professional learning helps adults recognise risks and signs of harm, understand their responsibilities, and respond appropriately to concerns. It also reinforces the importance of listening to children and taking their concerns seriously.
Standard 9: Creating safe environments
This standard focuses on promoting children’s safety and wellbeing in physical and online spaces. This includes classrooms, playgrounds, excursions, camps and digital platforms. Appropriate supervision, thoughtful risk management and clear expectations for safe and respectful technology use help create environments where children can learn, play and connect with confidence.
