Language, Seasons, and Student Voice

Our Always Was, Always Will Be student action Team has continued to meet, yarn and share ideas together. It has been lovely to welcome interested students who have joined us recently, bringing their curiosity and ideas for how we can continue sharing and taking action across our school.

This fortnight, we are celebrating student voice through different languages. Isra B. and Joy O. have created Albanian and Korean versions of our school’s Acknowledgement of Country, helping us think about how respect for Country can be shared across the many languages, cultures and families in our school community.

Këtu është toka,

Këtu është qielli,

Këtu janë miqtë e mi,

Dhe këtu jam unë.

Sot u bëj nderim

Pronarëve tradicionalë të kësaj toke,

Popullit Wurundjeri Woi Wurung

Të kombit Kulin,

Të së kaluarës dhe të së tashmes,

Në tokën e të cilëve

Ne mësojmë,

Këndojmë Dhe luajmë.

여기 땅이 있어,

여기 하늘이 있어,

여기 내 친구들이 있고,

그리고 여기 내가 있어.

오늘 나는 인정해,

이 땅의 전통적인 주민들을

과거와 현재 모두

그들의 땅 위에서

우리가 배우고

놀 수 있다는 것을.

We are also sharing Poorneet Season by Chloe C. Poorneet is a cool and wet season in the Wurundjeri Woiwurrung seasonal calendar. 

As we move into the school holidays, students and families might like to slow down and notice what is happening around them:

What is the weather like?

What plants are changing?

Can you hear birds calling or spot nests in trees?

What signs of Country can you notice in your garden, street, park, or your surroundings?

Our AWAWB team continues to grow, and we would love to welcome more students who are interested in learning, listening and helping our school take action.

Come join us! There is no cost to join - just bring your curiosity and passion for caring for Country. Students can listen out for lunch play announcements or speak to Ms Chong if they are interested.

We look forward to continuing to learn, share and walk together as a school community.
