Junior School

As we move through Week 8, it has been another busy and rewarding fortnight across the Junior School. Our students have embraced opportunities for learning, leadership, service and personal growth, and it has been wonderful to see our community actively engaged in the rich life of the College.

Student Leadership and Service in Action

Over the past fortnight, our student leaders have continued to model servant-hearted leadership throughout the Junior School. Students involved in leadership and ambassador initiatives have contributed to projects supporting wellbeing, community engagement and environmental responsibility. These experiences are developing confidence, responsibility and a genuine heart for service, while inspiring younger students to become positive contributors within our school community.

Growing Wellbeing and Positive Relationships

Student wellbeing remains a key priority across the Junior School, with our AngliSchools F.I.R.E. values of Faith, Integrity, Respect and Excellence shaping the way students learn, interact and grow together. Through our Triangle of Focus on Regulation, Readiness and Connection, we are intentionally building a culture where students are emotionally prepared for learning, organised for success and known deeply by staff and peers.

This work is supported through our LEAP Program, GO (Growth and Opportunity) Time, K-2 PLAY lessons, and a growing range of structured lunchtime opportunities. Students have particularly enjoyed Power Games, which promote teamwork, cooperation and problem-solving in K-2, alongside the creative and calming experiences offered through Creative Pursuits and library activities including Cosmic Yoga, Origami Club, Board Games, mindfulness colouring and drawing competitions.

These priorities were also evident during the recent Year 3 Camp, where students strengthened friendships, developed resilience and demonstrated increasing independence through a range of outdoor and team-building experiences. It was wonderful to see students stepping outside their comfort zones, encouraging one another and bringing our F.I.R.E. values to life in authentic and meaningful ways. Together, these experiences continue to foster a vibrant, inclusive and connected Junior School community.

Chapel and Christian Formation

Our recent Chapel gatherings have provided meaningful opportunities for students to reflect on faith, character and service. Through worship, prayer and biblical teaching, students have been encouraged to consider how they can demonstrate kindness, courage and compassion in their daily lives. These shared experiences continue to strengthen our Anglican identity and foster a strong sense of belonging within our College community.

Planning for 2027 Class Placements

As we begin preparations for 2027 class placements and our Term 4 Step-Up Day, staff are undertaking significant work to create balanced classes that support each student's learning, wellbeing and social development. We value the insights families provide and appreciate the thoughtful communication we have received regarding class placement considerations.

While all parent requests are carefully considered as part of this process, it is not always possible to accommodate every request. Decisions are made with the best interests of all students in mind, taking into account academic, social and pastoral factors, as well as the overall balance of classes. We thank families for their understanding, partnership and trust as we work to create learning environments where every child can thrive.

Looking Ahead: Learn to Swim Program

We are excited to announce that our Kindergarten Learn to Swim Program will commence on Thursday 17 September. This program provides valuable opportunities for students to develop water confidence and essential swimming skills in a safe and supportive environment.

Families of Year 1 and Year 2 students are reminded that their Learn to Swim program will take place next term, with further details regarding dates and organisation to be communicated in the coming weeks.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support of the Junior School. Together, we are creating a vibrant learning community where students are known, nurtured and challenged to achieve their very best.

Year 3 Camp

Last week, our Year 3 students headed off to Borambola for their very first school camp. There was plenty of excitement as students took part in a range of new and challenging activities.

Kayaking and archery were clear favourites, with students showing great enthusiasm and giving everything a go. A few students even ended up in the water while kayaking - and they can confirm that it was very cold!

The food was another highlight, with the nachos at lunch proving to be the most popular meal. Students also thoroughly enjoyed the evening night show, which provided plenty of laughs and was a great way to finish a busy day.

It was wonderful to see our Year 3 students embracing new experiences, supporting one another and creating some fantastic memories together.

Year 4 Music

In music, the Year 4’s has been learning the violin. On Friday September 4, each class presented a concert to friends, family and peers to celebrate their learning.

The Year 4 students showed exceptional musicality and performance skills, and the performances were a wonderful success. I am so proud of their efforts both in class, at home and on the stage!

Last week we celebrated Book Week with a ‘Symphony of Stories’, and keeping on with the theme the students’ created musical stories that included the music they were learning in class. These stories were then presented in each concert with the music throughout.

Creative Pursuits

Over the last few weeks, we have been reading Storm Boy together. We followed Storm Boy's adventures, met Mr Percival the pelican, and learned all about life on the Coorong.

Each week, we read part of the story, talked about our favourite bits, shared what we were thinking, and listened to everyone else's ideas. We also did fun activities like designing book covers, making character profiles, acting out scenes, and getting creative with the story.

One of the best things about Book Club was getting to enjoy a great book with our friends. It was fun hearing what other people liked and finding out that everyone noticed different things in the story.

Book Club showed us that reading can be fun, exciting, and even better when you share it with other people. We loved going on this adventure with Storm Boy and Mr Percival!

Year 6 Orienteering

On Thursday 3 September, a lucky group of Year 6 students went orienteering in the bush near Chiltern. 

Arriving in the national park the mosquitos buzzed, the birds chirped, you could just taste the bush air. The instructors had some games set up including a game of volleyball with a yoga ball, a footy to kick between some trees and a really long skipping rope. After we played some games, we split up into groups. 

From there, instructors at Wodonga TAFE showed how to figure out distance, and how to use a map and compass to figure out direction. Once we learnt those skills, we had some lunch and had another go at the games.  

After lunch, we did our orienteering course. All groups had to reach around 5 or 6 different points which was found by combining the distance on a map with the direction that it pointed us. Traversing streams that barely run, going through thick shrubs and seeing a couple of gold pits, it was difficult to traverse. A highlight for me was seeing the beautiful Chiltern National Park. Leaving the bush with a new skill we never knew, orienteering was an amazing experience. All the Year 6 students who attended really enjoyed it.

Riding to Cairns for an important cause

We’re wishing our wonderful Learning Support teacher, Mrs Karen Garvey, and her husband Bernie all the very best as they take on an epic motorcycle journey from Wodonga to Cairns as part of the Black Dog Ride to the Top.

Karen and Bernie joined around 80 other motorcyclists who set off from Junction Square in Wodonga on Saturday 4 September, braving pouring rain as they began their journey north. They are aiming to arrive in Cairns on 11–12 September, with Karen’s wheelchair travelling safely on the trailer behind their bike.

The Black Dog Ride to the Top aims to raise awareness of depression and suicide prevention, encourage conversations about mental health and help reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness.

Bernie is also taking on the important role of Ride Coordinator for the journey.

We’re incredibly proud of Karen and Bernie for getting behind such an important cause and wish them safe travels as they make their way to Cairns. What an adventure!

Oliver and Pop take on the Lunchbox Rally

We’re excited to share that one of our wonderful Year 2 students, Oliver Russell, is taking part in the 2026 Lunchbox Rally alongside his Pop!

The Lunchbox Rally is a five-day adventure that sees teams travel through regional Australia in old cars, all while raising money for the Cancer Council to support cancer research. Every team commits to fundraising before taking part, helping to make a difference for people affected by cancer.

Oliver, his Pop and their trusty car, ‘Merv the Mazda’, will be calling into the College on Thursday 24 September before setting off on their epic adventure!

Oliver and his Pop are currently on track to become the highest fundraising team in the 2026 rally, which is an incredible achievement.

To help them reach their fundraising goal, we’ll be holding Crazy Coloured Socks Day on Friday 25 September, with gold coin donations encouraged throughout the day.

We can’t wait to see Oliver, Pop and Merv the Mazda before they hit the road - and we’ll be cheering them on all the way!

Everyday English at Trinity

We are delighted to be partnering with Boas Language Academy to offer free after-school English classes for students, parents and carers.
