Heads of Secondary Years' Report

To our wonderful Hazel Glen community,
What a lovely end to the term it has been.
Our Year 7s had a wonderful time at Camp Manyung on the Mornington Peninsula last week. They built connections with their peers and teachers and they participated in a range of fun activities.
Our final Secondary Years assembly for Term 1 was on Monday 23rd March, with a Harmony Day theme. Our College Captains did a fabulous job hosting the assembly and shared inspirational messages with our community. We were also treated to a fantastic performance of "I am Australian" from students in our Instumental Music and Performing Arts Academies .
On Thursday, the 26th March, we had our annual Athletics carnival at Meadowglen Athletics track in Epping. After a nervous wait to see if the weather would be on our side, we had a beautiful sunny day, for the most part and managed to fit all the events. The rain held off until we loaded the last student on the bus!
You can enjoy some of the photos from the Athletics day in the "Celebrations of Learning and Community" section of this newsletter.
We would like to take this opportunity to warmly welcome Mr Daniel Willcocks to Hazel Glen, as our new Head of Year 11 and 12. Daniel is an experienced English teacher and we are so happy to be able to welcome him to the team.
We hope that all of our students and their families have a wonderful break and enjoy some quality time as we enjoy what is left of the sunny weather.
A couple of key dates at the start of Term 2, to remind you of;
- 20th April - All students commence
- 23rd April- Year 9 A-D city Experience - Shrine of Remembrance
- 24th April - Secondary Years ANZAC ceremony
- 27th April - Parent Teacher Conferences
Please remember that there are no reports for Term 1. However, parents and families can access information about a student's ongoing learning progress via Compass.
Students in Years 7-10 will have their achievement in all units of work they complete communicated through Learning Tasks on Compass. Results will be visible to students and parents within two weeks of the completion of a unit. This will include results for: their overall achievement in the unit of work, the key assessment task, and their approaches to learning. Effective from Term 2, teachers will begin to include a detailed assessment rubric as part of the learning task results, which will inform the overall achievement in the unit of work.
Students in Year 11 and 12 (VCE, VCE-VM and VPC) will have their achievements for all School Assessed Coursework (SACs) and School Assessed Tasks (SATs) communicated through Compass Learning Tasks. Typically, results will be visible to students and parents within two weeks of the completion of a SAC/SAT. This will include results for their SAC/SAT achievement and their approaches to learning throughout the duration of the coursework. On occasion, due to VCAA moderation requirements, results may be visible shortly after two weeks.
We encourage you to be accessing and viewing Learning Task results prior to the Parent Teacher interview day on Monday April 27th (Week 2).
We look forward to seeing all students back at school on Monday the 20th April.
Warm regards,
