VET Sport & Recreation Snow Camp

Year 11 & 12 VET Sport & Recreation students had an amazing camp at Mount Hotham during week 2 of term.  They were blessed with some fresh snow, and great conditions, and students tackled the slopes learning safety and risk assessment.

The mornings started with lessons, then an opportunity to practice new skills in the afternoon.

The progress and determination shown by all students was outstanding, with everyone achieving their goals. We are so proud of how well our students behaved, cleaned up after themselves and worked together as a team.

Big shout out to the staff who supported and encouraged our students, making for a great time for all!

Deakin Excursion - National Science and Engineering Challenge

On Wednesday 24th June, a group of Year 8s, 9s and 10s represented SCSC at Deakin University by competing in the National Science and Engineering Challenge.

They competed against other schools in the Geelong region in a series of challenges where they had to solve problems, build various structures and work together. In the morning session, one of the SCSC crews scored the highest of all schools in “confounding communications” where they had to crack codes and send secret messages. In the afternoon session, another group smashed the "Grab Lab” by building a functioning hand-like grabber tool and meet certain criteria.

Our bridge-building team also built a sturdy structure of plywood which withstood a heavy carriage. It was a fantastic day and the students all did a fantastic job working together and representing the school with pride. Surf Coast finished 4th out of 7 schools which is a great achievement!

Year 7 Drama Performance

At the end of last term, 7B, 7D, 7F, and 7G each finished their year 7 Drama unit by performing the play ‘The Not-so Mysterious Disappearance of Cinderella’! Each class worked so incredibly hard over the whole of term 2 to help create the play, learn their lines and cues, and put on some truly fantastic work.

Performers were given 2 theatre tickets to hand out to their friends at the start of the day for a lunchtime matinee with each cast completely filling up the drama room with very supportive crowds.

A great big shoutout to the extraordinary collaboration between actors and those who elected to be crew members - handling production elements such as lighting, sound, direction, stagehands, costumes, and props. Well done to those who scored 100% over the course of the term-long CAT, and I hope to see a lot of you for year 9 Drama!

Semester 1 Outdoor Education

Year 9 and 10 Outdoor Education finished the semester on a high! Students had the opportunity to experience some of our beautiful local environments, deepening their understanding and appreciation for how lucky we are to live on the Surf Coast and the importance of protecting these natural spaces.

Students tried new activities, pushed themselves out of their comfort zone and built real confidence along the way.

And while no fish were caught this time around, the sun was shining! Students made the most of the day, reflecting on the term's learning, developing new skills and worked together as a team. A great way to finish the semester!
