YEAR 9-10 SCHOOL NEWS

Year 9 Geelong Tertiary Futures Program (GTFP) Trade Taste Testers program
Over the past three weeks, our Year 9 students have been participating in the Geelong Tertiary Futures Program (GTFP) Trade Taste Testers program. Students have had the opportunity to explore a range of trade pathways, develop new skills and gain valuable hands-on experience in different industry areas. A fantastic opportunity for students to begin exploring future career and education pathways beyond school.
Year 10 Deakin University
On May 27th and 28th, Year 10 students spent a day at Deakin University – Waurn Ponds immersing themselves in higher education. Students began the day with a tour of the campus including key facilities and residential spaces. They then selected their first of five possible workshops to engage in throughout the day, with the options including Nursing, Engineering, Exercise Science, Forensic Science and Creative Arts. Each session offered students practical activities relevant to the prospective area of study, from building a tower to withstand an earthquake to trying to settle a crying baby. During their lunch break, students could explore the various food options on campus and enjoyed playing games of Soccer, Basketball, downfall and kicking the footy on the University’s extensive outdoor spaces. They finished the afternoon with a second workshop and opportunity to ask current University students questions about higher education.
Overall, we were very proud of the enthusiastic engagement of our Year 10 students in all that the day offered and were pleased to hear the excitement from a number of them about their future post-high school pathways.
A big thank you to the WHC teaching staff who assisted with the running of the day.
