On Monday 25th May, five of our students represented the school at an interschool chess tournament held at Oberon High School. The event brought together around 70 students from Oberon High School, St. Josephs College, and Christian College, creating a competitive and exciting atmosphere.
Our team performed admirably across the seven rounds. Mustafa Siddiqui and Coby Wilson each achieved an impressive 4 wins from 7 games, earning credit certificates for their efforts. Tyson De Feu finished with 3.5 wins, Olly Taylor secured 3 wins, and Jesse Millar achieved 2.5 wins, with all three receiving participation certificates.
The students demonstrated great sportsmanship, focus, and resilience throughout the day, gaining valuable experience against strong opposition. It was a fantastic opportunity to challenge themselves and represent the school with pride.
More opportunities to participate in chess tournaments will be available later in the year. Students interested in getting involved are encouraged to attend Chess Club, held every Tuesday lunchtime in the library.
Western Heights College students represented the school exceptionally well at the Division Cross Country Championships held at Eastern Gardens this week.
All students competed with determination, resilience and outstanding sportsmanship throughout the day. Staff were extremely proud of the way students supported one another and conducted themselves both on and off the course.
Special congratulations to our Year 7 Boys, Year 8 Girls, and Year 9 Boys teams for winning their respective age-group divisions. Fantastic achievements by all teams involved.

As part of National Reconciliation Week, eight students accompanied Miss Annabel to the Geelong Gallery to participate in a special workshop led by First Nations artist Deanne Gilson. Students explored storytelling, culture and identity through art, gaining insight into Indigenous perspectives and creative practices. It was a valuable and engaging experience that encouraged reflection, learning and creativity while celebrating the importance of reconciliation and connection to Country.
The artwork created by Ryan, Fatema, Gabby, Ivy, Alecia, Adelle and Tahlia will be put on display in the Yellow building.
