Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden 2025
Over the past fortnight the 3/4D class have eagerly engaged in all that the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program has had to offer. They have been working hard in the garden to plant some new native plants in an empty spot next to Mr Parker’s room. Hopefully, in the summertime, these will bloom into beautiful bushes and provide some wonderful flowers to encourage the bees to pollinate our vegetable gardens.
In the kitchen we have had two weeks of using seasonal vegetables such as cauliflower, potatoes, pumpkins and zucchini. For our main meal last week we used a new recipe which was ‘Cauliflower Gnocchi’. They were so tasty but took longer than we expected to make. This week we went digging for potatoes and made ‘Cauliflower and Potato Soup'. So nice and creamy on a cold winter’s day.
Thanks to the volunteers who have come to help 3/4D. These wonderful people have been Rosie (Gemma’s mum), Diana (Christopher’s Mum), Shany (G’zelle’s Mum), Nasim (Daniel’s Mum), Ashleigh (Azaria’s Mum) amd Bree (Ryder’s Mum).
Arigatou!

Student Reflections:
Darek: My group made mushroom, broccoli and lettuce salad. It's made with soy sauce, sesame oil and pure honey.
Kiarah: Today in cooking, my group made a fantastic salad! We all cut broccoli, mushrooms, and we ripped lettuce into our salad. One of my great friends, G’zelle took her time in cutting the broccoli. I cut the broccoli pretty fast. For a dressing, we added: Sesame oil, gluten free soy sauce, vinegar, and honey. Our volunteer is Christopher’s mum Diana, she is very kind and helpful. Gardening: For gardening, we did some weeding and planted, my best friend Elly, planted a that's called a ‘Perfect Pollinator’. Then after that, the whole group planted a banana tree. It was quite hard digging up the hole, but Mrs Siegert took the big shovel and dug up the hole. Gardening was so fun!!
David: This week we did bread and we made basic bread we put in flour in the bowl then 1 all the boys mixed the honey then put water then mixed when finish mixing we put the honey in the flour then mix then we put the honey flour in the table the neet it.
Nathan: Today I made the main meal which was potato and cauliflower soup. When I was cutting the potatoes it was thick and hard. When I was cutting the potato I had to use the bridge cutting technique. I also cut some cauliflower and it was pretty cool. The cauliflower was crunchy. The volunteer I had today was Gemma's mum Rosie.
