From The Team
Welcome back to what is shaping up to be another exciting and very busy term in the Senior School! We hope everyone enjoyed a restful break and is ready for a wonderful term of learning and new experiences.
We have already had a fantastic start to Term 3. Some students proudly represented our school at the Division Netball competition, demonstrating excellent teamwork, determination and sportsmanship. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and the way they supported one another throughout the day.
Students also enjoyed working alongside members of the Men's Shed during our Tree Planting activity. This was a wonderful opportunity to learn about caring for our environment while building connections with valued members of our local community.
As part of NAIDOC Week, the Senior School have been learning about and celebrating the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Through a range of engaging activities, students have explored the importance of respect, connection to Country and the rich traditions that continue to shape Australia today.
We look forward to another wonderful term filled with learning, creativity and exciting opportunities. Thank you for your continued support—we can't wait to share more of our learning with you throughout the term!

What We Are Learning
What We Are Learning in Specialists
VISUAL ARTS
3/4
This term students will explore construction and sculpture using sticks, wire, tape, wool and textiles. They will also explore clay modelling using the score and smooth technique to join air dry clay.
5/6
This term our focus will be Media Arts. Students will explore forced perspective by locking the auto focus and exposure on an iPad. Student will also use grid lines to use the rule of three when positioning people/objects. Later in the term students will create a chase scene using Stop Motion animation.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
3-6
Students will begin the term developing their striking skills through tennis and cricket, focusing on footwork and following through with the racquet or bat. Students will be introduced to the modified rules used in District Competitions. Later in the term they will develop their Volleyball skills through the Sporting Schools Program.
Cultural Studies
3-6
This term, students will investigate school life in South America, beginning with the story of a student growing up in a disadvantaged community in Rio de Janeiro. Through stories, videos, discussions and inquiry tasks, students will compare daily life, education and opportunities with those in Australia, developing empathy and a deeper understanding of how culture, environment and circumstance shape people's lives.
Performing Arts
This term, students will rehearse their cultural dance performances, finale dance and live music ensemble items in preparation for our Whole School Production on Wednesday 9th September at the Rowville Performing Arts Centre. Through rehearsals, students will develop confidence, teamwork and performance skills while refining their timing, coordination and stage presence as they prepare to showcase their learning in this exciting whole-school event.
It will be a very busy sporting term with:

Senior School Events
Division Netball
On Monday 27 July, the boys' and girls' netball teams competed in the Division Finals, playing against several schools for a chance to win.
In total, both teams played around seven games. It was a long and tiring day, but everyone kept trying their best and never gave up. Their effort and determination were noticed and admired by others throughout the competition.
The teams worked together, encouraged each other and gave every game their all. Although neither team came away with the overall win, they represented Scoresby Primary School with pride.
Both teams showed excellent sportsmanship by cheering on their teammates, respecting the umpires and congratulating the other teams after each game. Their positive attitudes and teamwork made them great role models on and off the court.
Even though they were up against some very strong and well-trained teams, they should be proud of the way they played. They gave their best effort until the very end, and that is something worth celebrating.

Men’s Shed - Tree Planting
On Thursday 23 July, we spent the day planting trees around the school. About 12 people from the Men's Shed came to help up, and one of the volunteers even came all the way from Queensland! We also had a lady from Bunnings who helped us plant the trees and gave us some gardening goodie bags. Inside the bags were seeds, buckets, gloves and other gardening supplies.
At the end of the day, before everyone went home, the volunteers cooked us a barbecue. We had sausages in bread, which was a really kind thing for them to do. Everyone enjoyed it.
The teamwork and effort from everyone helped us plant lots of new trees. We should all be proud of what we achieved together. We hope the trees grow big and strong and become a great part of Scoresby Primary School for many years to come.
NAIDOC Week
On the 17th of July Friday, we had a Scoresby superstars lesson on Naidoc week. Naidoc is an acronym and stands for National Aboriginal and Islanders Day Observance Committee.
In Scoresby superstars we used paper leaves to make our own stories using the symbols we learnt. We all had fun colouring them in and making our own unique and special stories. When we finished, we would use the leaves to make a wreath.
We learned about the indigenous people and how Naidoc week started as a protest called “The Day of Mourning”. They decided to turn the day into a celebration for all indigenous people, they also decided that one day was not enough to celebrate so they dedicated a whole week for it.
We also learnt that at the time, they used specific symbols to communicate to each other and create small but meaningful stories. There were symbols for the sun, stars, moon, boomerang, hunting sticks, campfires and so much more.
