Introducing Our New PBL Matrix

Earlier this year, we shared an introduction to Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) and our work with Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) as we begin our journey towards becoming a PBL school. PBL is a whole - school approach that supports schools to explicitly teach, acknowledge and reinforce positive behaviours, creating consistent and predictable environments where all students can thrive.

Developing Our School - Wide Values and Expectations

Our new school-wide values and expectations have been developed through consultation with members of our school community. Students, staff and the School Advisory Council (SAC) were invited to share their ideas about the values that are important to our school community and the values we want to instil in our students and foster across St Joseph’s.

During our most recent staff professional learning day, our teachers worked together to develop the school-wide expectations that form our new PBL Matrix. These expectations provide clear and consistent examples of how we can put our shared values into practice across our school.

We have now begun this journey, and you may already notice staff using some of the new PBL language with students as we begin to familiarise everyone with these shared values and expectations.

What Will This Look Like?

We are excited to share our draft Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) Matrix with our school community.

Once finalised, our PBL expectations will be explicitly taught and revisited in classrooms, particularly during morning routines and throughout the school day. They will be used alongside our existing classroom routines and expectations. This approach supports the importance we place on creating safe, predictable and consistent learning environments across the school. 

This is the beginning of our PBL journey, and we look forward to continuing to build a shared understanding of the values and behaviours we want to see across St Joseph’s and instil in our students as they grow.
