Whilst this week's newlsetter is quite lengthy, it is important to go into a level of detail given data that has recently become available to share. Please see below what is an overview of this, in as summarised a version as I could achieve; I'm sure you'll agree, it's worth the read!
2026 NAPLAN Results
We have recently received our 2026 NAPLAN results, and there is plenty to be proud of. Across Grades 3 and 5, our students have achieved very strong results, with Hampton performing above Similar Schools and Network Schools in almost every area.
Our Grade 5 results are particularly impressive, especially given we had close to 100% participation across the cohort. NAPLAN is only one measure of student achievement, but such high participation means these results provide a very strong representation of the learning outcomes of our students.
The percentage of Hampton students achieving Strong or Exceeding proficiency is below, by comparison to Similar Schools (schools with similar demographics and size) and Network Schools (all schools in Bayside area):

There are some exceptional results within this, particularly 99% Strong or Exceeding in Grade 3 Writing and 97% in Grade 5 Writing. Grade 5 Reading and Numeracy were both at 93%, five percentage points above our Network Schools.
These are outstanding results and a credit to our students for the effort they put into their learning, our teachers for the quality of teaching occurring across the school, and our families for the support they provide at home.
Attitudes to School Survey Results
We have also received our 2026 Attitudes to School Survey (AtoSS) results. This is a statewide survey, completed by our Grade 4-6 students and gives us valuable feedback about their experiences of learning, wellbeing, relationships and school.
The results this year are extremely positive (see below). We saw significant improvement across almost all measures from 2025, and Hampton's results sit above Similar Schools and Network Schools across almost every measure. Particularly pleasing is that the strongest results aren't confined to one area. They tell us that students feel included and supported, have high expectations for their learning and are increasingly engaged and connected to their school.
Some highlights include:
- Improvement in 19 of 20 factors, some by as much as 24% endorsement
- Being above (often considerably) Similar Schools in 19 of 20 factors
- Being above (often considerably) Beachside Network Schools in 19 of 20 factors
- Whilst there is a small decline in 'Experience of Bullying', there was a significant increase in 'Managing Bullying', indicating we are doing a better job of dealing with incidents that do take place.
Taken together with our NAPLAN results, this gives us a really positive picture of our school. We want our students to achieve highly academically, but equally we want them to feel included, connected, challenged and supported at school. It is wonderful to see such strong results across both areas.
2027 Plans
We have already begun planning for 2027 and to support us with this, I encourage any families that are moving to another school to please inform us so we can plan accordingly.
Hats Are Back
A reminder that our SunSmart hat requirements recommence from 1 September. We will give students a little grace this week as everyone gets back into the routine, but from next week students without a hat will need to remain in the shaded areas at the Rotunda or Indigenous Garden.
Please make sure hats are clearly named. It makes returning the inevitable lost hats considerably easier!
Battle of the Boots
What a fantastic result from this year's Battle of the Boots. Hampton Primary took the win by 10 points, but the success of the event extended well beyond the field, with a little over $19,000 raised in total and over $8,000 to Hampton Primary School which will go toward the construction of the Pergola nearby the Kitchen Garden.
This year we were also delighted to support three of our local kindergartens as our charities of choice, with each receiving $650.
A huge thank you to the organisers who put so much work into making the event happen, particularly Ben Stevens who co-coordinates the whole day. A huge thanks as well to everyone who played, attended, contributed or supported the day. It was another terrific example of our community coming together.
Book Week Celebration
What a wonderful day Thursday was with students participating in Book Week activities and the parade, which thankfully the weather held off for. Whilst not being a part of a great day due to a conference, the reports coming in were incrediby positive, as days like this should be!
HPS Golf Day
A quick reminder that bookings are open for our upcoming HPS Golf Day. Details and booking information were sent via Compass last week, so please jump on and secure your place if you are planning to join us.
Hampton Street Renewal
Bayside City Council has budgeted $2.5 million for the renewal of the Hampton Street shopping centre, including improvements to pavements, greenery, public art, lighting and street furniture.
Council is currently seeking community feedback, and I encourage interested families to have their say through the Hampton Street renewal survey.
