The Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Liturgy

Thank you to Mrs Ahumada and Stage Two who held a wonderful Liturgy for The Presentation for the Blessed Virgin Mary last Friday. Even with Father O'Shea at a retreat, the whole school (including our Transition Students) were excited to hold the event in the Church celebrating our Blessed Virgin Mary.  The feast day is recognised as a day of thanks-giving from Mary's parents Joachim and Ann who brought Mary when she was a child to a temple in Jerusalem to 'consecrate' her to God.

The couple, who were childless, received a message from heaven (divine promise) that as they were true examples of a couple of embodied faith that they would be blessed with a very special daughter. The feast day reminds us all of our responsibility as parents and grandparents, to establish a legacy for future generations passing on wisdom and experience to nurture children with faith, love and by being wonderful role models.

Thank you Stage Two and Mrs Ahumada.

Liturgical Year Change

This coming Sunday is the change over of the Catholic church's liturgical year as this Sunday (30th November) marks the first week of advent! Heading into Year A in the three year cycle, we will be hearing from the Gospel of Matthew.  As one of the Synoptic Gospels, did you know that it is Matthew's Gospel that mentions the 'three wise men'?  The magi who came to worship Jesus as the king of the Jews and the only Gospel to include the Lord's Prayer (Matthew 6:9-15).

Over this coming Liturgical year we will learn more about Jesus and his 'coming' as the 'promised Messiah' who is promised by the Old Testament.  As one of the 'easier' Gospels to understand, due to its journey from Jesus' birth to resurrection, it also helps is understand other events in Gospels such as Mark.

Advent Wreath

  • Advent wreath candles typically involve lighting one new candle each Sunday, culminating in the central candle on Christmas Day.
  • The four outer candles are lit in a specific sequence: the first purple candle (Hope) on the first Sunday, a second purple candle (Peace) on the second Sunday, the rose candle (Joy) on the third Sunday, and the third purple candle (Love) on the fourth Sunday. The central white candle (Christ) is then lit on Christmas.
