Dear Westbreen PS Families,

Parent/Student/Teacher interviews

It was fantastic to see a very high number of bookings for meetings today. We highly value the opportunity to meet with families and students in person.  Students have been working hard to develop their learning goals to share with their families. This is a new focus for the term one meeting. We changed the format and timing of the term one interviews in response to feedback we received from parents and carers that they wanted more information about their child's learning sooner in the year. This will be further enhanced by a progress report that will be completed by teachers at the end of term one and term three. Parents and carers will also receive formal semester reports in term two and four, which is a requirement of the Department of Education.

Curriculum Days and Early Finish times for 2026

In the interests of forward planning, here are the dates for the Curriculum Days for the remainder of 2026.

  • Term 3: Thursday 13th August (3 way conferences)
  • Term 4: Monday 2nd November (Professional Practice Day)

We also have early finish times at the end of each term as follows:

  • Term 1, Term 2 and Term 3 @ 2:15pm
  • Term 4 @ 1:15pm

These changes to normal school hours are approved by school council each year.

New School Council for 2026

Thank you to all those parents/carers who nominated for school council for 2026. A Special Meeting will be held on Monday, 16 March, to present the Annual Report to the School community and to co-opt nominated community members onto council. This meeting is open to all community members. Following this, we will hold our first official School Council meeting to elect the office bearers for the year.

Parents and Friends Association

Ever wondered what the funds are spent on when you contribute to fundraising events run by P&F? In 2025, the P&F voted to support the improvement of ICT devices in the school. I am please to let you know that we have now ordered a class set of iPads to add to our school ICT resources. Thank you to everyone who bought a raffle ticket, ate a sausage, gave a donation or helped at a P&F event last year to help raise these funds for our school. I am really excited about the events that P&F have planned for this year!

Emergency Management at WPS

Throughout the year, we are required to conduct emergency management drills as part of our school Emergency Management Plan (EMP). This will include a range of drills for different purposes including fire drills, lockdown drills, evacuation drills etc. If for any reason you think that these drills may be a cause of concern for your child, please contact the office to discuss this further. We will let the community know via Xuno prior to the drills being conducted.

Improving Toilet Behaviour

We have noticed a range of issues in the toilets over the past few weeks, including throwing toilet paper, vandalism and wasting learning time. We strongly encourage students to go to the toilet before school, during lunch and recess to maximise student learning time. We also teach the specific behaviours from our matrix which are listed on this poster which is displayed in our student toilets.

Leadership Assembly Tomorrow

I hope to see you all at our special leadership assembly tomorrow where we are awarding our student leaders their leadership badges.

Yours in education,

Megan Ganter
