Acting Principal's Report
Deanne Scott
Hello DPW Community,
Firstly, I’d like to wish all our families a very Happy Lunar New Year. I’m sure many of you enjoyed the celebrations on Tuesday night.

I would also like to recognise that for many of our families, we have just begun the month of Ramadan. Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam and is prescribed for Muslims as an act of worship and a form of spiritual purification through charity and good deeds.
Over the next month, Muslims observing the fast will refrain from eating and drinking from dawn to dusk. Feeling hunger and dehydration allows people who fast to understand what the less privileged experience and fosters greater empathy and gratitude. Ramadan is a time when many families and friends come together for iftar, the evening meal that breaks the fast, gathering around the table to share food, express gratitude and strengthen family bonds.
School Council
Deer Park West Primary School Council meets twice a term. School Council is made up of parents, teachers and the principal and focus on enhancing student outcomes and improving school facilities. We had our first meeting of the year on Tuesday night.
I wish to extend my thanks to our school council members, particularly those who have concluded their term – Tram, Melanie, Amber and Melinda. The call for nominations for new members will open shortly. Parents are always welcome to renominate, as are parents who may wish to nominate for the first time. Additional information will be sent via Compass and will be available at the school office.
Whole School Picnic
I am looking forward to seeing you at our Whole School Picnic next Friday afternoon, from 1:30-3:00pm. It’s a wonderful opportunity for families, students, and staff to come together in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. The students and their teachers have been busy preparing a range of enjoyable activities for everyone to take part in.
Our Junior School Council has also organised a small fundraiser and will be selling Zooper Doopers, juice boxes, and small packets of chips. If your child would like to purchase something, please remember to bring along some change.
Challenge of the Week
I have been inundated with requests to bring back the Challenge of the Week. So, I have listened to the students and the first challenge for 2026 is in this newsletter. It will now have its own page. I am looking forward to seeing how many students submit their entry.
Kindest Regards,
