Identity & Mission

Mr Robert Herrera - Director of Catholic Identity & Mission

The start of the school year is a wonderful opportunity for us to gather as a community to reflect and ask God's blessing for the new year ahead.

We gathered as a College community on the first day back for students and we took the opportunity to commemorate the feast of St Brigid on February 1st. In our start of year liturgy we looked at St. Brigid was a peace-maker and an icon of justice in her time. We introduce the year of Justice using St. Brigid as our inspiration.

On February 6th we once gathered as a college community to celebrate our Opening School Mass and investiture assembly of student leaders. We were delighted to welcome Fr. Elio once again to celebrate Mass. He spoke about Justice using the famous art work by Yayoi Kusama whose flower obsession room. He used her artwork to say if we all bring 2 flowers, we can change the room, rather we can change the world.

Shrove Tuesday was a great success! We managed to kickstart our fundraising this year for BASP. It was the perfect prelude to our solemn Ash Wednesday service. All students were asked to reflect on how they were living their lives and remember we are all temporary here on earth, not to focus too much on our bodies rather the soul, how we treat ourselves and others.

In Year 7 Religious Education students got an opportunity to make their own St. Brigids Peace Cross using Chenille stems. The cross is a traditional Irish symbol, usually woven from rushes or straw, featuring four arms tied at the ends and a woven diamond center.  It represents Irish heritage, protection, and the transition into spring
