Ms Joanne Scully - Resource Centre Support Leader

We are delighted to welcome families to a new school year and to share an update from our Resource Centre. The resource centre continues to be a central space in our school, supporting learning, wellbeing and a love of reading for all students.

My name is Joanne Scully, and I am pleased to be working in the role of Resource Centre Support Leader in 2026. I work closely with Sofie Norello, our Teacher Librarian, and our Library Technicians, Csilla Schild and Jeyda Ibrahim. Together, we support the day-to-day running of the Resource Centre and work collaboratively with staff to ensure students have access to engaging, high-quality resources in a welcoming and inclusive environment.

The Resource Centre offers students much more than a place to borrow books. It is a calm and supportive space where students can read for pleasure, study independently, collaborate with peers, or enjoy quiet time during recess and lunch.

This year, students will benefit from a range of reading and literacy initiatives. Our Year7 and 8 Reading Program, supported through the Renaissance platform, helps students develop reading confidence and comprehension by encouraging regular reading at anappropriate level. Students are also guided towards books that match their interests andabilities, supporting positive and lasting reading habits.

Year 7 students have recently participated in a Library Orientation session to help them become familiar with the library space and services. Students eagerly searched the resource centre looking for various items along the way. Students added various comments to the‘I Love the resource centre’ display, including “I love how diverse the resource centreis”, “I love the amazing kind staff”, “I love the decorations and the interesting books”, and “I love the resource centre because I really love reading as a hobby and I love books!”

Throughout the year, the Resource Centre will host a variety of engaging events and activities designed to promote reading and student connection. These include BookTalks, competitions, and special celebrations such as our recent Library Lovers’ Day. We also look forward to celebrating Book Week later in the year.

Visit the Marian Resource Centre webpage to learn more about our print and digital collections, including a new research database Informit Explore. The library staff is available to assist with accessing and utilising all library resources.

We are excited about the year ahead and the many opportunities the Resource Centre provides to support students academically and socially. We look forward to working closely with students, staff and families to ensure the library remains a vibrant, welcoming, and enriching space for our school community.
