The Blue Tree Project
The Blue Tree Project is an organisation designed to help spark difficult conversations and encourage people to speak up when battling mental health concerns. By spreading the paint and spreading the message that "it’s OK to not be OK", we can help break down the stigma that is still largely attached to mental health. (For more information, visit www.bluetreeproject.com.au).
Throughout the PSA fixture against Christ Church in Week 3, we invite the entire Trinity College community to become involved in our Blue Round to highlight the importance of talking about our mental health and supporting those experiencing mental health difficulties.
This initiative aims to raise awareness and funds for the fantastic work the Blue Tree Project does in our community. Students, staff, and community members are invited to be involved in the following ways:
Blue Uniform Day - to commence the initiative, on Tuesday, 27 October, students are asked to wear their PE uniform for a gold coin donation, with the funds raised from this going to support the Blue Tree Project. Year 11 & 12 students who do not have a PE shirt can wear a blue Trinity PE shirt.
During PCG, students will learn about the Blue Tree Project and complete wellness activities.
During their PSA sporting fixture, 1st Teams will add an extra blue element to their uniform to raise awareness for this worthy cause.
Facing the challenge of a mental health disorder is difficult enough, but another layer of pain comes with dealing with the reaction of others. The most significant consequence of stigma surrounding mental health issues is that people are reluctant to seek the treatment they need.
When we all work together, we can create change. When we change our attitudes toward those with mental health challenges, the stigma will be reduced, and more people will receive the help they need to recover and live full, healthy lives. That is our goal at TC.
