Tribes - Reconciliation Week

On Wednesday our students came together in our multi‑age Tribes groups to deepen our understanding of Reconciliation Week (27 May- 3 June) and the importance of building respectful relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and all Australians.

Our Year 6 leaders discussed with their tribe that reconciliation is about coming together, learning from each other, and building strong friendships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and all Australians.

It is a time to celebrate the stories, cultures, histories and experiences that make Australia special. By learning about and respecting each other, we can help create a kinder, fairer and more connected community for everyone.

In their Tribes groups, students also read and discussed Adam Goodes and Ellie Laing’s book ‘Walk with Us’. The story prompted thoughtful conversations about Country, belonging, and what it means to acknowledge the past while working towards a more respectful future.

Reconciliation Week continues to be a powerful reminder that we all have a role in shaping a future grounded in understanding and unity.

CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations to all our Division Cross Country runners who took part on Tuesday at Yarra Glen.  We had many POPS students finish in the top sections of their age groups with 2 students only narrowly missing out on the next round.

Congratulations to Chloe C (5M) for advancing through Division Cross Country to the next round - regionals.  Chloe will take on the best of our region on Thursday 11 June and we wish her all the best.

FIDGET TOOLS at SCHOOL

We’ve noticed many students bringing squishies, balloon fidgets, and other toy items from home or they are purchased from the Milk Bar. These are not learning tools and have become a distraction during class, with several breaking and creating unnecessary mess.

This week, teachers will ask all students to take personal fidgets home and not bring them back.

For students who genuinely require a fidget tool, teachers will have a small supply of approved fidgets, provided only when recommended by the teacher, parents or external professionals.

We appreciate families supporting a calm, focused learning environment for all students.

REPORTS

We will be providing student achievement reports for Semester 1 this year as usual. The reports will be distributed on Monday June 22.

The reports will continue to provide important details about student learning attainment, but full descriptive comments may not be included as a result of industrial action taken earlier this term by the Australian Education Union.

We will of course be pleased to discuss with you your child’s progress at our learning conferences scheduled for Wednesday June 24 (3:50- 5:00pm) and Thursday June 25 (1:30- 7:00pm). Learning conference bookings will be open in week 9 via Compass

Tuesday June 9 is a student free day. Our teachers will be using this time for their Professional Practice Day, focusing on assessment and reporting.

Thursday June 25, school dismissal will be at 1 pm to enable Learning Conferences.

I hope everyone enjoys the long weekend,

Ms Garrity
