TERM 3
Exploring South America and Share Your Story.
This term in World Cultures, our students have been taking an exciting journey through South America, discovering the people, places, music and traditions that make this continent so diverse and fascinating. Our learning has taken us to several countries, including Colombia, Peru and Brazil.
South America
🇨🇴 Colombia
In Colombia, students have explored the colourful world of Encanto, learning about Colombian culture and traditions which inspire the much-loved film. We have also discovered the Amazon River and Amazon Rainforest, learning about their incredible size, wildlife and importance to our world. Students have even had the opportunity to experience some of Colombia's vibrant culture through Salsa dancing!
🇵🇪 Peru
Our journey continued to Peru, where students discovered the story of Paddington Bear, whose character was inspired by Peru. We have explored the ancient wonder of Machu Picchu, Castle students decorated traditional Chullo hats, Holly classes recreated the colourful Rainbow Mountain, and Stillwell students discovered the important role of the Llama in Peruvian culture and history.
🇧🇷 Brazil
To finish our small unit on South America, classes discovered Brazil - the largest country in South America. We have found out about Brazil's passion for soccer (football) and explored the spectacular Rio Carnival, with its music, dancing, costumes and celebrations.
Share Your Story
Alongside learning about South America, students have been using Courage to share their personal stories and experiences with their classes for our ‘Share Your Story’ segment. Their peers have been listening respectfully, using Curiosity when asking questions and recognising that every person has a unique story worth sharing.
Students can share up until the end of Term 3 on the following days

A display will be made of these wonderful stories once everyone has had a chance to share. You will find this on the World Cultures Learning Street window at the beginning of Term 4. It has been wonderful to see students growing in confidence as they learn about the world around them and connect these discoveries to their own lives and experiences. I look forward to spending the rest of the term exploring the concept of story through oral traditions, arts and performance, events and gatherings, and written formats.
