Year 8 Camp
On Wednesday the 18th of March, the Year 8’s piled into the School Bus and Miss Cavanagh’s car to prep for their trip down to Torquay.
After some slight Tetris play, some late arrivals and packing concerns, we were off.
After a quick break in Buninyong for morning tea and to stretch our legs, we continued towards the Coast.
As we got closer, the weather improved and you could feel the excitement building as it was nearly time to surf.
Upon arrival and a quick lesson on how surfboards work, we were out in the waves.
The conditions were rough, but all the students handled it well, with quite a few managing to stand and catch a few waves.
After this it was out to our accommodation to set up for the evening. After a freshen up and dinner the evening's entertainment was a quiz with the following topics: Australia, Science, Sport, and Donald High School.
Our second day started with a scenic cycle along the coast which took the students through some lovely scenery as they were educated on the ecology of the landscape, they saw paragliders taking off as they scaled the cliffs and they saw the historic Bell’s Beach being prepared for the Easter Holiday.
After lunch, students got to explore Torquay and check out some the sights and sounds of the coastal town.
This was followed by a trip the the Chocolaterie to sample some of the areas fine delicacies.
To help them recover after a big few days of activity, we stopped at the beach for a swim before heading back to camp for dinner and to watch the footy.
Friday morning was an early start as we had a 8.30 meeting with the surf. Despite this session being hard to get motivated for, once everyone got in, everyone experienced success on the boards!
We packed up and headed for home, where a few sleepy heads managed a couple of sneaky z’s before we got home.
Big thanks to Mrs Battersby and Miss Cavanagh for coming, helping to organise and helping run camp.
