Oxford Falls Facilities Update
Please be aware that construction and improvement works are continuing at Oxford Falls, which has temporarily reduced the available spectator seating within the CBC.
We kindly ask families to be mindful of the limited space and to keep clear of team benches and designated player areas. For the safety of both players and spectators, please avoid standing along the court edge.
Where possible, we ask families to utilise the seating provided and avoid gathering around team benches or courtside areas. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as these works continue and for helping us provide a safe and enjoyable environment for all.
ISA Basketball Round 1
SPX opened the ISA season with several strong performances across the program.
The 13Cs secured a close 34–31 win, led by MVP recipients James Yang and Jack O’Kane, it was an epic comeback game that will no doubt give the team a positive mindset going into this week’s game. The 15Ds, 15Es and 15Gs also started with victories, with Chris Simpson and Ollie Delilkhan leading from the front for the 15Es.
In the older age groups, the 17Ds impressed with a 24–6 win, with Archer McLean and Jacob Laface earning MVP’s. The 17Es won 30–24, led by Zac Brazier and James Higgins, while the 3rd V recorded a hard-fought 29–24 victory, with Hugo Moran and Sebastian van Vuuren recognised.
There were also promising narrow losses for the 14Ds, 15Fs, 17Cs and 4th V, all finishing within four points of their opponents.
For teams that didn’t get the result they hoped for in Round 1, there is plenty of basketball ahead. Continued commitment at training and games will provide opportunities to improve each week.
A special mention goes to Miss Zanko who coached 3 teams at Oakhill last week. In her first ever match as a Basketball coach, she managed 3 amazing wins.
Thank you to all the parents that supported on the benches and were positive from the sidelines.
Fixtures, Attendance and Notifications
There was a significant number of players who missed their Round 1 fixtures. Pleasingly, based on training attendance this week, we are expecting a much stronger turnout moving forward. Team sport relies on the commitment of all players, and attendance at fixtures is an important part of representing the College and supporting teammates.
Fixtures for all SPX sports are available through Clipboard. Please note that fixtures may initially appear as 'Unconfirmed' and display a placeholder time (such as 2:35 am) or temporary venue. Once details are confirmed by opposition schools, fixtures will be updated in Clipboard and marked 'Confirmed'. This process can occur as late as Thursday each week, so families are encouraged to check Clipboard regularly for updates.
Attendance
Students are expected to attend all scheduled training sessions and fixtures throughout the season. If your son is unable to attend a training session or fixture, please record the absence through Clipboard and send a courtesy email to Mr Bourke as soon as possible. This assists coaches with team planning, supervision and communication.
When recording an absence, families should note that family commitments are not generally considered a valid reason for missing a scheduled fixture. Teams, venues and opposition schools rely on player availability, and late withdrawals can have a significant impact on teammates and the competition as a whole. Please try to provide as much detail as possible for the explanation.
Families may also start receiving attendance notifications if a student is absent from a training session or fixture without prior notice. Thank you for your support in helping us provide a safe, organised and positive sporting experience for all students while upholding the commitment expected of SPX athletes.
Uniform Expectations
The opening round of the season saw a significant number of players arriving at games out of uniform or without the correct playing gear. We cannot emphasise strongly enough that the way students present themselves to and from fixtures is a reflection of the standards and expectations of SPX
Just as students would not attend school wearing casual clothing such as Crocs or hoodies, these items should not be worn to basketball fixtures. Players are expected to arrive dressed appropriately and ready to represent the College with pride.
Playing Uniform
Students will not be permitted to participate in warm-ups or take the court without the correct SPX Basketball uniform.
Required Playing Uniform
SPX Basketball Shorts
SPX Playing Singlet
Both items can be purchased from the College Shop.
Bathurst Trip Last Weekend
A huge thank you to all the players, families, coaches and staff who made the trip to Bathurst last weekend for the opening round of the ISA Basketball season. While the results did not fall our way on the court, the SPX pride, spirit and sportsmanship displayed throughout the day were outstanding. Our students represented the College with great enthusiasm and character, and we are incredibly proud of their efforts.
A special thank you to Mr Gibson and all of our coaches for their commitment, support and willingness to give up their time to provide this opportunity for our students. We are also grateful to the families who made the journey and contributed to the fantastic atmosphere across the day.

Cricket
A good weekend for both the 1st and 2nd XI with victories against St Stanislaus’.
Congratulation to Zach Rapa (1st XI) on scoring 101 (his second century this season) and Cooper Gabriel (2nd XI) who, on debut, claimed 5 wickets.
Saturday 24 October 2026 – ISA Cricket – Round 2
1st XI v Oakhill College @ Oakhill College, Castle Hill
2nd XI v Chevalier College @ Oxford Falls #1
Saturday 17 October 2026 – ISA Cricket Round 1
The Oxford Falls ground staff excelled in a wet week to have Chaplin Oval looking fantastic for ISA Round 1. Losing the toss and being sent in to bat the 1st XI pushed hard to score 9/275 at the end of 50 overs. A century to captain Zach Rapa (101) was supported by Darcy Horstead (63), Archie Wragge (35), Jared Fernandes (20), and Brody Mendel (16*). This included a 125-run partnership between Rapa and Horstead. An intimidating total to chase at Oxford Falls.
An early wicket from Jared Fernandes (1/14) didn’t start a collapse and the 1st XI had to work for each wicket. Alex Burke (3/35 off 10), Max Barnett (2/8) and one wicket each to Brody Mendel (1/20) and Ollie Pavely (1/10) was assisted by excellent catching by Archie Wragge, Zach Rapa, Will Asensio, and fielding by Mendel and Pavely.
Next Saturday – 1st XI v Oakhill College @ Oakhill College.
Upcoming matches (as per PlayHQ)
Saturday 31 October 2026 – ISA Cricket – Round 3
1st XI v St Patrick’s College @ Oxford Falls #1

Saturday 7 November 2026 – ISA Cricket – Round 4
1st XI v St Gregory’s College @ Oxford Falls #1
2nd XI v St Gregory’s College @ St Gregory’s College, Gregory Hills
