Mini School Updates

Junior School

Term 1 has flown by so quickly for our Junior School Team.

Our Year 7 and 8 students have enjoyed some fantastic experiences throughout the term both in and outside of the classroom.

In February, our Year 7 cohort attended a three-day camp at Waratah Beach, where they embraced the outdoors and challenged themselves through a variety of exciting activities, including surfing, rock climbing, the giant swing and beach volleyball. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to build resilience, develop teamwork skills and form new friendships.

Meanwhile, our Year 8 students spent an action-packed day at Gumbuya World, making the most of the rides and attractions throughout the theme park. The day was filled with fun, laughter and memorable moments, providing a great chance for students to connect with their peers outside the classroom.

We are looking forward to seeing all our Year 7 and 8 students and families at Parent Student Teacher Interviews to finish off the term with some learning growth and feedback.

The Junior School Team wish our families a happy and safe Term 1 break and are looking forward to seeing all our students back for a positive start to Term 2.

Middle School

It is a very exciting time for all of our Year 9 students who have now finished their last NAPLAN ever. We enjoyed a BBQ together to celebrate. All students are to be congratulated on their behaviour and attitude during the tests.

Our expressions of interest for the Middle School Camp to Queensland are now open. Please visit Compass or the college Facebook page for more information. Alternatively, please call Andrea, who can help with the EOI form. All applications will be considered but we will choose the lucky students who get to attend camp based on GPA, attendance and behaviours.

If your child is interested in attending, please complete the below form (copy the link) by Thursday 2 April.

Recently we welcomed Danika Mace to the Middle School Team as our new Student Support Officer (SSO). Danika will work alongside the team in chasing up lates, truants and other non-compliance behaviours.

A reminder that all phones need to be in lockers between 8:45 – 3pm. Any communication between students and home needs to come through the Middle School. We are happy to facilitate this communication, but it sends a poor message when a student arrives at our office explaining that they have already called or texted a parent asking to be picked up or to go home. The students know the process, so we appreciate any support in maintaining this.

Finally, as we approach the Easter holidays, we hope it is a chance for everyone to rest, recharge and get ready for a busy Term 2! Have a lovely break.

Senior School

Term 1 is almost at an end and our senior students have been working hard. Our VCE students have completed their first SAC for most classes and our VM students have been working hard in their work placement (or at looking for a work placement). The senior team will be hosting a morning tea for our Year 12 students on the final Monday of term to celebrate a successful first term.

Recently our Year 12s attended the Hijinx Hotel at Chadstone where they worked in teams to solve a series of puzzles in the shortest time. The competition was fierce and only 100 points separated the winning team and the runner up. Congratulations to “Team 5”.

As students continue through the year they will need to maintain focus and balance increasing workloads at school with their other responsibilities. Developing strong study skills and using their time well are two key areas students should focus on to ensure they can do their best at school while maintaining time for sports, socialising and part time work. Senior School will be hosting a study skills session early in Term 2 that will detail how to study effectively and efficiently, as well as how to develop and maintain the belief that students can achieve their academic goals. Part of this program is a series of free webinars for parents. These are hosted 4 times per term, with the next one addressing How You Can Help Improve Your Child's Memory on the 25th of March at 6:30pm.

In Week 2 of Term 2, 50 of our Year 11 VCE students, along with 5 staff, will be heading to Melbourne to visit a variety of universities and tertiary institutions for the VCE Camp. They will also attend the 2026 VCE Careers Expo to explore, discover and learn more about the different options for potential course selections as they move towards the end of their schooling. The universities will be conducting detailed presentations about courses, benefits and supports that they offer. Students will also take part in campus tours and briefings about entry requirements. The VCE Careers Expo has 150 exhibitors and students will be able to research and gain resources from the stalls. Thank you to the Careers Team for organising this event.

The Senior School Team wishes you all a healthy and positive Easter break with family and friends. We look forward to seeing you all return revitalised for a strong Term 2.
